Lately, a lot of you have been whining and complaining, turning thread after thread into countless bitchfests about who did this and who said that and how this site is going to die and we're all going to catch AIDS...
SO! We have a solution. We move the drama.
Specifically to one handy thread where you guys can cry and complain and whine at each other to your HEART'S CONTENT. Any further drama and crying that I see will also be moved to this thread. Let's get it all out here. And then when you guys are all done, you can come back to the actual forums and start actually, you know, posting and enjoying yourselves for a change of pace.

The only true solution to this is to just start deleting such drama or punishing members for talking about it and I'm not going to do that so this is the next best thing. Sooner or later, these people are going to have to learn to post together. They don't have to like each other but they need to learn to stop breaking out into crying fests.

Yeah this. When they tried to make "trolling" a bannable offense on zoklet, it was a mod slaughter fest. Anyone who did something a mod didn't like was trolling and they were banned. This drama shit is going to be much of the same. Maybe the staff here is better, I don't know, but I do know that this drama rule can easily be abused as drama can't actually be defined, just like trolling. Its just an umbrella term that can be used to manipulate any situation. First posts might just be moved, but after that gets tiresome (16 hours from now), repeat offenders might just banned. In essence, this rule could be used to ban anyone who posts something a mod doesn't like.

It is kind of a sad predicament we've placed ourselves in. We want freedom to express ourselves as we want, but we also want quality content that makes this site worthwhile. These two desires shouldn't be mutually exclusive, but unfortunately we're hopelessly apathetic and awful.
I don't know what I'd do to try to fix it. Guess the only thing to do is try to be decent posters and hope it encourages others to follow suit.

Maybe in terms of low labor jobs in comparison to their massive population of niggers on welfare. Canada has most of the worlds fresh water, a shit load of trees, oil and other resources. I had a lot of fun bullshitting on zoklet over the years although I've always thought Rust was a far better poster than myself. Like I've legit changed the way I live my life because of some of the things he's said and how well he could argue for this position. Like I feel stupid saying it but I sometimes ask myself IRL "how would Rust respond to this", and not like in the dogmatic sense that I want to parrot his opinions all the time but just in the sense that he always seemed to think about things first before jumping into a position while I still always feel this urge to defend whatever my intuition is and find arguments for it after the fact.
Like the one of the reasons I love this community, and one of the reasons I'm generally optimistic about the world (as dumb as it may sound). is that I can show up here with strongly held beliefs and someone can come along and, through a good argument, totally reverse my opinions about the world. Like damn, even with every reason not to, I can change my beliefs because some total stranger who's smarter than me can make a compelling argument. How cool is that? Maybe no one recognizes it but this is damn close to a socratic utopia where our beliefs are constructed by beating the shit out of each others ideas.

Yeah rust was an awesome poster. I rarely agreed with him on the boards (due to my irresistible urge to troll) but I always loved seeing him write massive essays tearing his opponent apart ruthlessly. I'd like to think I could do the same thing, but in reality, I would never have the patience to put up with so much retardation and illogical nonsense like he did, I would almost immediately devolve into personal attacks rather than scientifically try to disprove retarded points with actual scientific sources via massive essays. Even when totse had first shut down, when everyone was devastated by its loss, we STILL did not do nearly the amount of complaining that has been going on lately. We were cool about it. We moved on and we had an awesome time with what we had. But I guess that's irrelevant now.
Maybe it's just me. Maybe I messed up somewhere. Maybe I messed up in a lot of places. I don't know. All I know is, this site is beginning to become less like how I envisioned it and more like a place I have to go to maintain and clean up every day. I try to enjoy it but it's not really there. It's piled under all the BS.

My advice: You've been doing a good job so far (despite being mormon and loving dragons). A better job than zok anyways.
Don't set your expectations too high, and don't put in too much effort. Don't burn yourself out. I feel like that's what zok did. He went all in, and then quit. Be here, but don't be obsessed with this website. Maintain your sanity and personal life above all else. This thread in itself is proof enough of that. Trying to mod every thread in the forum for drama is suicide. I get that you want quality posts, but you can not, and will not, be able to enforce that. Its something that had to evolve on its own. Yes, some moderation is needed, but if you try to babysit the entire website, you are going to have a bad time, and just rage quit or go into exile like zok did. Don't make that mistake. Chill out.

Your entire gimmick (life) is obsessing over the forum. The most logical thing to do it to advise the opposite of that, lest we want another absent admin like zok or jeff before him. If you invest too much time into trying force order and reason on a bunch of autistic criminals then you are most likely going to get fed up and say fuck this. Arnox is experiencing this exact phenomenon. Hes trying hard and is not satisfied with the results. This isn't an issue of site policy, its an issue of mentality. Sure, recommend site policy changes all you want, I'm not even going to get into that in this post, as I don't feel its actually relevant to the post that arnox just made. What is important is that our new admin doesn't go crazy, flee, or rage quit, as we have all seen before. As such, I think its important that he set realistic expectations for the site. Your view seems to be to ban all 'kidiots' and create a perfect harmony of forum posting. That isn't ever going to happen and pursing that goal will lead to bowl cancer or worse. I agree arnox has been doing a good job, but his frustration is based off of unrealistic expectations. Rather than throw site policy ideology at him, he should rather be encouraged to take his new role more realistically, with a grain of salt. And when a person collects 5 stars, they can trade them in for something neat. Like maybe they would be able to reverse a ban placed on another member! Within reason of course. It could maybe strengthen the community in unexpected ways.

While it's all well and good to relax and stop trying to take care of this site so much, I just don't see how I can do that. Even what I'm doing now doesn't seem to be enough at all.
As far as I can tell, hes the only real chief here. Yeah, there are other mods, but none can take his place for shit as far as I can tell. Jeff and zok were absent for months at a time, and shit kept running because they delegated basic tasks to others. Arnox needs to do the same, especially if he is this stressed out after only a few weeks. This is an interesting period, but if the site is a success, the level of stress is sure to increase from this point. Employing proper stress management techniques, site expectations, delegation, and policy are all crucial to the long term survival of this site.

I'm a firm believer in positive reinforcement in communities like this. You have to treat us all like children because that's kind of what we are when given free agency. You don't hit children, you show them you respect them by talking to them frankly about the bad behavior and reward them for good behavior.
We have these useless stars on the left. Arnox, maybe you could implement a thanks-like system that only allows you to hand out thanks? And they could show up there on the left as stars. And when a person collects 5 stars, they can trade them in for something neat. Like maybe they would be able to reverse a ban placed on another member! Within reason of course. CP spammers need to stay gone forever. But people like power to do things, and reversing a ban is always a positive thing for a person to do. It could maybe strengthen the community in unexpected ways.
I say if you want more people to care, give them some limited powers or something as a reward when they start being consistently constructive and friendly. Or something.

I agree with this. A lot of people who post as trolls usually have some bad experiences in their history, and trolling people or shitposting is their outlet to relieve some stress.
Everyone can be a quality contributor. They just need a little extra attention to feel like are included and part of the community, which is okay.

I found that, during the cp spam, 'reporting a post' meant that I had to scroll down to the bottom of the post, often revealing more of the child porn than I had hoped to see.
Also, when I started bitching about the cp spam, I was told to 'just let it be' and let the moderators handle it.
I hate 'reporting' people anyway, I did it during the cp spam more than once, and I am probably not going to do it anymore. 'Let it be' is my new mantra.

Arnox, not that I think you would make him a moderator, but I feel like stating anyways, that spec was one of the worst and corrupt moderators in zoklet history. If you make him a moderator shit will hit the fan instantly. And spec is going to constantly try to get himself modded, for years, or decades or however long the site is up. No, not really, Cdn roofers are mostly barely literate ex cons who hide beer in chimneys and have to stay competitive by giving cut rate estimates because literally anyone can do it. I'm in a wheelchair and have a fused spine and I did roofing before for something to do because my buddy started a company when he was 18 or 19. It's pretty much the lowest of the trades actually, requires nothing but the willingness to climb on a roof and work as slow as you want because you're on someones roof and unless they want to get up there on the roof themselves they can't tell you shit. When you finish a roof there's no quality control and as long as it doesn't leak the first time it rains you did your job, fucking landscaping is a more honorable profession in my mind

We built a lever and pulley system using the chimney, I had to draw up the blueprints for it and direct the project because roofers don't know basic engineering/physics
