anywayz, yeah i get what you mean constantin. i've always hated the idea of "purebreeds" and things liek "akc approved" and maybe in a world that hasn't been so molded already it'd be great to not have dogs as pets and let them be. but for adopted dogs stuck in shelters, well if we don't adopt them, they'd just fucking die, which sucks a shit ton. especially when you get the chacne to work with them a bunch (whcih not to sound pompous or anything, but i've been volunteering for a shelter since about 6 years ago and it's awesome to hang out with these dogs that get to live than die.)

but yeah, i've seen a lot of caged birds in taiwan at restaurants and it's pretty sad b/c that's all their lives revolve around. i tend to mentally scoff at people who have exotic pets. cool, fennec foxes are cute, but why try to tame a beautiful wild thing? but as for dogs, at least ones in shelters, i'd rather save one than see one die again at a shelter. like it SUCKS when a dog goes missing at a place you've been working at and workers say in a subtle way it's been put to sleep.

It only sucks because you have not reconciled the nature of life with the reality of the world we live in.  Dogs, animals, die constantly. All the time. It's going on all the time. To say that we need to save all these dogs from dying is not exactly clear thinking. It's a struggle for something that cannot be won, or even marginally effected in some kind of meaningful way.  More-over, it creates expensive and elaborate systems of "doggie day-care" for what are essentially unwanted pest-animals.  Things don't end up in the trashcans of society because they are necessary. The death of one dog is an ease on the entirety of this nation as one more non-person non-contributing only-sponging thing is left to rot and it's owners can now save money on food and towels to wipe up their shit. And we can farm less land for dog food, all kinds of great stuff.


Do you know what they do with stray dogs in some poor coastal African cities? They use them as shark-bait. Either alive or immediately cut up and tossed into the water on giant treble hooks.  Would most American's find this cruel? Maybe. But why? Because dogs are no longer animals that we can use for a purpose - because their status as pets have graduated them above the rest of the animal kingdom in terms of endearment to man? I posted the pictures because I was hoping someone would comment on its hitler mustache, but no one ever does. 

And why do I own a dog?  Well, I didn't as an adult, until my parents got one.  The breeder still had her brother so I got him so that him and his sister could at least not be seperated.  Then my parents promptly moved to florida, seperating them anyway.  I kept the dog because he is just a cool dog.  And he has a freaking hitler mustache.

There are indeed animals that are known to have and maintain family units. Elephants, chimpanzees, Bonobos, gorillas, cows, many different "herd" animals...oddly enough though..dogs aren't among them. In fact, almost no predators maintain family groups.
