Here is the first part of what the noun idiosyncrasy means, according to Wikipedia:
"Idiosyncrasy, from Greek ιδιοσυγκρασία, idiosyngkrasía, "a peculiar temperament", "habit of body" (idios "one's own" and syn-krasis "mixture") is defined as an individualizing quality or characteristic of a person or group, and is often used to express eccentricity or peculiarity. The term can also be applied to symbols. Idiosyncratic symbols mean one thing for a particular person, as a blade could mean war, but to someone else, it could symbolize a surgery. By the same principle, linguists state that words are not only arbitrary, but also largely idiosyncratic signs."
When I first signed up for totse, I was trying to think of something to set myself apart. I didn't want something stupid, and I didn't want it to be too specific, but also not too abstract. I was thinking, "What would make me an individual?" I know that being a part of totse was a very individualistic characteristic of a person because most people don't think the same way that we do, and they couldn't respect totse the same way that we do. Therefore, I figured that my presence on totse was its own defining characteristic that may make up any individuality I may possess. Naturally, totse, like many other things, became an idiosyncrasy of my life that, when combined with many other defining facets of my life would comprise what I have come to call... myself. The posts I make are true to myself and may be collaborately known as my personality. Therefore, totse was my idiosyncrasy. The name carried over from there.
As for my avatar, totse used to be called &totse, which people often shortened to &T. The 2008 halftime show featured Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. I saw that close up that showed him in front of the & T and liked it. So it became my avatar upon the closing of totse.
