This is exactly the kind of logic that causes poor (stupid) people to remain poor. "This has an enormous lifetime cost, but there's an incredibly small chance it may pay off, so it's worth it." You know, as opposed to investing in something that actually tends to produce a return on investment, like education and technical skills.
"My son could be the next president! All I have to do is raise him right." Yeah, we'll fucking see how that works out. Let's see, around the teenage years they'll probably get into drugs and crime, maybe have a pregnancy scare, cost you a bundle in legal bills and other grief from time wasted dealing with their problems, then they'll either drop out of high school, just barely make it with a low GPA, or get a GED, by this point they'll probably have a nice start on their criminal record. Go to community college and waste their time and your money, or spend a year or so "looking for work". Since you'll likely still have the same poor job prospects, or had around his age, primarily your fault, you might be sympathetic (gullible). Then he'll either get by on petty crime, maybe being a small time drug dealer, while lying to you about what he does for a living, or remain underemployed at a low wage job, and if he manages to get a full time job it'll be something dead end like Taco Bell (Brain Surgeon), which he'll eventually quit due to feeling he's worth more (he isn't) or get fired for his utter incompetence/stupidity/criminal propensity, fabricate a delusional story that makes it appear as if he's entirely faultless, spend a lengthy period unemployed looking for "something better", but due to having no skills or (significant) education and a poor job history this will never happen, so he'll give in and get another McJob to avoid getting kicked out because you obviously come from a family of utter fuckups, so it's not like he'll stand out by contrast, and the cycle will repeat, all the while picking up convictions to add to his record here and there, a probation stint if he isn't on it already, and getting deeper into drug abuse and addiction, until he finally ends up in prison or does something bad enough to finally get him thrown out.
Then he'll eventually get out or come crawling back and you'll accept him because "he's family" and needs some help getting back on his feet until he gets his life together, which he's really really trying to do this time. At that point he'll become a permanent part of the weird family commune you guys seem to have going and move into a shed somewhere on the property, with a hose through a window/hole in the wall for water and extension cord for electricity. Fortunately some of the old bats will have finally died off, an end to their miserable existence, and you'll get to fight over who gets any inheritance (pfft, yeah right) or at least who gets to move into their rooms and the junk they left behind. This will kick off the great family clan war of 2038 with people splitting into factions, the occasional drunken brawl, and someone pointing a shotgun with one hand while holding a whiskey jug with the other. This is assuming you haven't become bankrupt with all property repossessed by that point, which may be for the best because it would force you to move out on your own and separate yourselves from destructive influences.
And this is just an overview! Hundreds of days in a year and decades you will have to deal with! Day after day having something else, a new major force in your life to provide countless moments of pain, to help chip away at you bit by bit until one day you "accidentally" shoot too much heroin or put a barrel against your head and pull the trigger. At best you can hope for a mental breakdown, after which you'll be sent to a long-term mental hospital where you'll spend the rest of your days drugged out of your mind, zombified and having joined the ranks of the living dead, until the bitter soul crushing end when you realize:
