I don't know dude, security researcher for an alphabet agency is pretty appealing. Very technically minded people probably care more about the interesting problems and getting the resources to solve them than about the politics of what they're doing. Not that I'm a particularly "out of the box" kind of person but I'm a part of this community and I worked on a DoD grant for a year because the work was interesting.

It probably depends on how aware they are that what their doing is pursuing drug charges, what the environment is and how involved the DEA may be. It seems it would take a mentality similar to a cop to really be motivated to catch them, particularly with a high level of intelligence, or someone who can block it out or not really care, the "just doing my job" and detached or potentially sociopathic mentality.

Also, binding affinity data is not the be all end all of a drug's potential.  You should know that, c'mon... there are many drugs that look great on paper but turned out to be shit.  Ethylphenidate off the top of my head.  To that end... phenmetrazine may look good, but if that morpholine ring splits in vivo, suddenly you have a big floppy b-ethoxy which if its anything like b-MeO will love itself some norepinephrine.  Similar to the cathinones which so readily metabolized to nasty ass ephedrine metabolites.

Of course there are potential metabolites. I only meant that from cursory glance at the wiki page it seemed okay to use. I'd never use a drug without doing more extensive reading, at least looking up what the metabolites and MOA are.

I like it better than any pill I have ever had, even better than methadone, which is my drug of choice generally

Methadone sucks though.  Lasts forever, but it's like a nice body high without much euphoria.  Best opioid pharm I've had was fent.
