Very true Umbrella Corps, i like your idea for only contributing members being able to thanks i think it should be considered by the mods. I think with this sites users a hard to abuse button is very needed.

This is all too true. Im wondering if we could do it where 50 posts = 1 thanks to give so you have to make them count but I wouldn't be surprised if shitposting went up just so people could stockpile thanks.  But then again who are we to dictate what one should be thanked for? I mean ideally thanks would be given to quality contributions and act as a way to showcase good posts. But if that isnt how the user wants to use it what is the point? It really only worth doing it all the way and letting the users decide what is worth thanking or not doing at all.

I would wonder if there is a way we could implement a feature that works like thanks allowing users to say "thanks for making me laugh" or "thanks for making me think" (kind of a range from like for lolz or like for content etc) and whatever the user puts dictates the priority of the post. I.e. we could have a system that sidebars posts thanked for content and originality while posts that were just good shit and lulzy stay thanked but not promoted.

Just flowing ideas here.
