If a guy attempts to mug me in broad daylight in front of witnesses, and I end up beating him to a bloody and unconscious pulp on the sidewalk.....you gonna just leave him laying there as "evidence" to his crime? OF course not, you'll haul his ass of to jail, call a cleaning crew in to remove the blood and guts off the sidewalk so future pedestrians don't have to tip-toe around or completely avoid the gore.

Could there by anything easier, or more basic common sense than that?

If the mods start pulling threads apart whenever there's an off-topic post made we really run that risk of micromanaging and possibly overstepping our bounds, which some other members mentioned as concerns.  Post removal might have its place, but we would do well to approach it very mindfully.

You see, if someone's already seen and responded to a derailing, the damage is already done. Removing posts en masse that were responding to the derailing isn't going to help the issue either. The best that can be done as a mod is to infract the person who started it all and move on. Also, it's not that hard at all to bring a conversation back on topic anyway. Man, that was a really good thread.  This sort of thing is why my feelings as a poster are that moderators should usually go with a "hands off" approach when dealing with individual posts within a thread.  Exceptions might include spam and posts that are detrimental to the site.

What the absolute fuck that is not a good thread the entire point of the thread was ignored if you wanted to discuss your anti violence bullshit make an anti violence thread you effectively made it impossible for posts about the OP to be discussed in the midst of all the unrelated discussion it's the exact reason you shouldn't be a mod if you think ignoring ops is a good idea

anyone on totse 2 knows what happens when threads are derailed into bullshit I'd point to the shake and bake thread that was impossible for users to get their questions answered in

Had it been its own thread that would be fine however you co opted a thread about a specific piece of information to talk about personal politics it had no place being there

if you were an actually good moderator/contributor you would have made your own thread about your views and directed people to that instead of continuing a conversation that wasn't pertaining to the topic
