Dogs are brought to us as we see them today by over 12,000 years of eugenics. So what? People in the "wild" had a better chance of surviving with having dogs to hunt/guard their camp and the dogs had a better chance of survival by sticking around people and eating their scraps. It's a symbiotic relationship that isn't really relevant now, like I said - dogs have been living with and interacting with humans for 12,000 years. They're just as much as part of our lives and history as we are of theirs.
