Did someone mention cats?

This one time I came home from work and it was nighttime.  The garage light illuminated part of the driveway and part of it was in shadow.  I got out of the car to go inside and noticed a stray cat approaching me in a friendly manner.  It was coming from a dark area into the light, and as I saw it revealed it was a normal, orange tabby, seemed well-fed but had no collar, and was friendly and approached with that 'Brrrt?' meow that cats do when they greet a person.  I reached out my hand to pet it but recoiled in horror as I noticed its tail, trailing behind but now fully revealed in the light.  It was an inch or so of fur and the rest of the tail was nothing but stripped bloody bone, like a dog had got ahold of it or something.  I shuddered and turned away, and went into the house.
