I wouldn't personally call my experience paranormal but I think some would say it qualifies:

I had a powerful hallucinogenic episode when I was in my teens. No drugs. The experience stemmed from chronic stress and depression. I went go into specific detail, but the experience was very warm and uplifting. I've never experienced anything like it before or since. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that at that very point in time it probably saved my life. I think it was a psychological survival mechanism kicking in. The 'paranormal' aspect of the experience was that it was very physical albeit without shape or form and involved people who where all dead.

And no, I wasn't a) coming out to myself as a necrophile or b) being molested by ghosts.

Neat.  Why do you describe this experience as hallucination?

The explanation that extreme emotional imbalance caused my mind to fabricate a situation that deterred me from doing something life-threatening, requires a far smaller logical leap than saying a bunch of dead people sensed my pain and decided to come cheer me the fuck up before I did something irreversible.

I can't disprove the second scenerio hence the paranormal aspect of my story, regardless of my personal interpretation.

That depends on what you mean by paranormal. I think telepathy is incredibly common for example. I have probably at least one semi telepathic moment a week. I look at it as communication stripped of as many semantic filters as possible, for one or both parties. It is basically the phenomenon of perceiving intention or emotion past the semantic or consciously telegraphed level. That is the part of the reasons why in some societies they wear protective amulets. People in some other parts of the world are often more tuned into the world past semantic filters. Like in some Arab countries it is considered very bad form to compliment excessively at a newborn baby. It is seen as laying an envious or potentially hostile intention on the baby, and can attracts the evil eye.

I take pretty much everything on face value. I don't see why the concept of the evil eye and the methods use to protect yourself from it is any less valid than shaking hands when you meet someone. If believes that they can get favors from gods if they sacrifice a bull and chant a little bit, I assume that they can. I have a harder time buying into things like astrology and talking to the dead though.

One time my daughter called me at 3am screaming at the top of her lungs that there was a ghost in the house and that it had just attacked her boyfriend. I told her to get out of the house immediately and a cab would be there any minute. When they got to my place, the boyfriend lifted his T-shirt and showed me his chest and there was claw marks right across it in diagonal lines, and there were also diagonal matching rips in the shirt. I told him to tell me the truth and only the truth, and he swore up and down that he got attacked by some kind of partially transparent, smoke-like, ghostly creature which had rushed out of the darkness up the basement steps as he was looking down them to investigate strange noises that had been coming from down there. He was totally believable.

What the fuck, you have kids?

Let's keep this thread rolling

Can dreams be considered paranormal?

I've had two dreams that I will discuss

The first one, it was as though I was looking down my energy channel and I started to meditate.  It was a conscious decision to meditate, though I was still in a dream state.  I floated past these orange-red symbols and came upon a giant purple orb that came closer, elapsing my whole field of vision.  In the orb I saw a giant looking purple elf, it looked like something from World of Warcraft.  After I saw the elf, I said to myself outloud "I made it" (which is very rare for me, to speak in dreams aloud..it was a very conscious thing).  Just as soon as it happened, I got excited and drifted out of the purple orb.

The other night I had a dream that I was in this realm with large shimmering red balls of light, it was as if I was being channeled energy from somewhere, a god, whatever.  Something spoke to me and said I must return to seed.  It then showed me a bright green blade of grass with red human veins on the end of it.
unwyred: have you sucked dick for heroin?

I was also surprised when I read that. I swear I never saw Spectral mention he was a father, although I never spent much time in PEOO. Who knows how much of his life story is bullshit.

Copy from Zoklet, edited for improvement:

1.) I saw a flying saucer go across part of my parents' backyard about 10-15 feet up, it passed close to the house and ended up going near a room and young walnut tree. It was about 2-4 feet in diameter, shaped kind of like this: -O-
It  was silent and seemed to move straight forward, but at the the same time it also rotated and wobbled. There was no visible propulsion source. I ran to the door and yelled for everyone to come outside quickly, but when I went back to look it was no where in sight.

This was in south central Los Angeles. It seemed really well made and I doubt anyone in that area would be likely to design something like that, or purchase and use it, and AFAIK nothing like it was available at the time or currently. Light wasn't an issue since it never gets very dark in the city, and the neighbors may have had a bright security light on, I can't remember if ours was on.

2.)Sometime when I was in third grade I was at home, alone, and heard a voice that said, "The end is near." It felt like it was in my mind, like a telepathic message, and my reaction was to look up. There was no attic or second story. I doubt it was just a neighbor's television or radio with the volume really high. I've never had anything like that happen again and nothing traumatic or anything had happened during that time that could have caused mental instability.

3.) During middle school I'd get dressed in a closet and rest a bit before going to school because it started absurdly early and I really needed more sleep. Eventually I started feeling oddly uncomfortable in there, but I didn't connect why until later. The feeling's hard to describe, it's almost as if the air pressure becomes greater. I used to frequent the gamefaqs paranormal/conspiracy message board and got the idea of having my brother dress in a costume and posting a thread where I'd pretend that it was a genuine paranormal event. When I viewed the pics I noticed that they had some odd things in them:

Things kept showing up in the pictures taken of the closet, and it didn't occur elsewhere. I only kept the best ones. I thought it was really cool and was pretty excited about it. Here's another one:

Eventually nothing was showing up anymore and I noticed that another closet started feeling the same way, so I took a picture of it:

A while later it stopped and nothing happened after that.

YOU think all this paranormal and weird phenomenon is bullshit... then step into MY arena AND TRY THIS

get a mirror about 50 cm square.
fix the mirror tightly into a frame. like a thick wooden picture frame.
make sure the mirror is tight and strongly fitted, or believe me YOU WILL LIVE TO REGRET IT ...IT WILL CAUSE A MISTAKE TO HAPPEN A MISTAKE YOU WILL NEVER EVER BE ABLE TO PUT RIGHT. SO DO NOT RUSH THIS FRAME.

Now mount the frame on a small table with legs about 25 cm high. make sure the mirror is on the top of the table. when you look on the table you can see yourself.
AND BELIEVE YOU ME, MAKE SURE THE WHOLE SET UP IS STURDY AND STRONG....OR YOULL REGRET IT.

NOW make your way down to a shallow running river. not a still river.
Take a BRAVE friend with you.
Both of you step into the river and hold the
one side of the frame each. with one hand on each corner.

now go to a depth in the river so that the legs of the frame are on the bottom of the river and this makes the mirror on the top of the frame about 5 to 10cm below the surface.

now take a few deep breaths and relax.
both you and your friend STARE INTO THE SUBMERGED MIRROR, AND FOR GOD SAKE MAKE SURE YOU ARE HOLDING THE STURDY FRAME TIGHTLY.

EVENTUALLY WHEN YOU BECOME MESMERISED WITH THE MIRROR, YOU WILL CEASE TO SEE YOUR OWN REFLECTIONS IN THE MIRROR AND THE REFLECTION OF THE RUNNING WATER, AND A KIND OF DARK SHAPE OF ONE FORM OR ANOTHER WILL APPEAR IN THE MIRROR.
This shape is an existing being, that is alive like you and i, but it is of a different form. it will be kind of dull, and looking at it will frighten you.
but stay and keep staring at it, because it is also staring at you. now if you or your friend gets really scarred, to the thing that is looking at you, it will see this fear as a vibrant display of one form or another, and this is very attractive to this kind of being, and then it will try and come out of the mirror to BE WITH YOU ...TO BE CLOSE TO YOU AND TO ...GET THIS.....STAY WITH YOU FOREVER AND EVER. EVEN when you are 100 years old and dying, this being will be next to you if you let it get out of the mirror.... trust me.
you will know it is trying to get out of the mirror, because the mirror will start getting kind of dragged about in the water by some mysterious force, IT WILL START TO FLAIL AROUND.
this is when you must pull that mirror clean out of the water WITHOUT BREAKING IT.
IF IT BREAKS ...YOU HAVE JUST GOT YOURSELF A NEW MATE...THAT IS WHY I STRESS THE WHOLE SET UP HAS TO BE VERY STRONG.
it may be difficult to get the mirror out of the water, but if you run off and leave it in the water. the thing will still come out and believe me it will catch you in 100th of a second.
the thing to know is, this being will be like a dark dull mass, something you have never seen before, and if you run it will run after you and it will always be just nearly getting you. it does this because it knows that by being close to you, that vibrant display ( your fear is at a max)
it will also be attracted to anger or laughter.
if it does get out and come after you, just sit still and it will also be still, laugh and it will come close, be scarred and it will come close.
basically just accept it. if it comes out you have just got yourself the closest friend you will ever have.
know this though....
it has absolutely nothing in common with you, it does not have dna or genetics, it does not talk or smell or see, as you or i do.
it is capable of many things, things you or i cannot comprehend, things that are unknown to us and thing that are UNKNOWABLE TO US.
MAYBE YOU WILL WORK OUT A MEANS OF COMMUNICATION WITH THIS THING, using your will, but that is all, and maybe the thing will take you places and do things that are not of our world with you.

the mirror acts as a window to another plane so to speak. a plane where everything and i mean everything we know as human beings is totally meaningless.

this is the truth...so only do this if you are one of those people who says.....its all bullshit.

All of the true things I am about to tell you are shameless lies.

I've had objects which I'm 100% positive were in a certain place disappear without a trace, only to reappear elsewhere hours or days later in places they had no way of getting to.

Demons try to take over my body while I sleep. It is very hard and exhausting to fight them off.

No. The items actually disappeared into some other dimension or different time, then came back later elsewhere. 100% confirmed.

Never actually saw anything para normal but maybe 6 years ago I was showering at my friends step fathers house. So after drying off and getting dressed I go to open the door only the knob won't move, even after I use both hands still nothing.

I go something like "haha, really fucking funny guys", assuming it's my friends fucking with me, after I attempt it again it opens right up, my friends aren't even in the house but outside drinking on the front porch, no clue what it was.

Too confused at the time to really think about it , it freaks me out now.
