Since the load is supposed to be still below the pressure of the proof cartridge, it should work fine once or twice in your gun. But prolonged usage will wear out your gun faster than +P. And the fact that there really is no official specification for +P+ means that there’s no way to really know what you’re getting. At that point, you’re putting your faith in your brand of ammo manufacturer to not overpressure the round too much, and your gun manufacturer to have designed the gun well.

Personally, I’m of the opinion that “stopping power” is a myth. The real thing you should be concerned about is shot placement, not how fast or how heavy your bullets are. So long as they can pierce someone’s chest they’re good enough. That’s why I carry normal factory ammunition in my gun. But for some people, their belief in the “stopping power” myth is strong enough that they need to risk permanent damage to their guns and the possibility of a “catastrophic failure” to squeeze those last few foot pounds out of their guns.

My advice: stay away from all the +P stuff.

either way pistol manufacturers proof test their production models based on a specific pressure range.  leaving a ++P+++ round in the sun, which potentially is loaded with a 'hot' powder in the first place, can add several hundred FPS to the velocity and spike the pressure by thousands of PSI potentially causing a catastrophic failure in a sub-par pistol

There is no special +P proof round it's the same proof that is used on any 9mm, they're both tested the same

If you want to do dumb shit and make your own +P+ (no pressure standard) ammo with "hot" (do you mean fast?), have at it. But whatever you want to do with ammo that was loaded without any pressure standard (+P+) does not change that +P is a standard load that is very similar to the international standard.

If a crap gun can't hold up to full power 9mm ammunition that is the fault of the gun, +P does not stretch the pressures outside of what the cartridge was designed for

im not sure what you thought i meant but i wasnt talking about ammunition, i was talking about the structural integrity of the firearm when it is fired with a particular type of ammo. each caliber has a specific pressure range the barrel/chamber/breech/springs/etc is designed to contain.  some firearms have construction of higher quality materials that allow higher pressures than 'normal' regardless of what saami says.  on the flip side of the coin some manufacturers have a lower standard of quality and using a +p or higher pressure round places the structural integrity of the firearm at risk.

regardless of pressure designs +p and higher pressure rounds place added strain on a firearm, regardless of how its designed.  commensurate increase in recoil, muzzle flash, and wear on the firearm result.

+p rounds are gimmicks and if anyone needs a higher degree of performance in the caliber they are using they need to consider looking at a different, more powerful round.

To all non FL residents if you can legally carry, you should apply it gives a large number of states with reciprocity for the non-res permit and the resident CWL, I believe, 38 states to legally carry.

 I know I'll take some flak from this, but my Hipoint .380.. I've made some minor modifcations, and needless to say.. it hasnt jammed in the past few hundred rounds since tinkering. It may not be expensive or considered highly, but I have enough practice with it to be more than efficient in making a killshot.. that's all that matters.

I love .380s, if yours doesn't jam you are lucky. I've heard 50/50 about HP though.
