I think you are being too optimistic. For the most part the selfie generation would lose it. Look at what happens when facebook is down for more than 20 minutes:

the only ones that would die during a power outage are the ones that deserve to die.  same example as during hurricanes here in florida...all the people who die are doing stupid shit.  running generators in their bedrooms with no ventilation, swimming/surfing in 20' waves and 110mph winds, wandering around and getting building roofs dropped on them...all true stories.  nature will weed out the inferior DNA, one way or another

there are countless people on this planet in every continent that live just fine with no electricity.  there is no way 9 out of 10 americans will die without electricity.  id almost agree to that if some girly country filled with socially-dependent sheep, such as UKistan, greece, or france were the topic...but not the US.

You are quite optimistic about the US. For the most part much of the US is energy dependent and glued to their smartphones/game system. When and if the electrical grid fails, the US will be screwed for some time. And don't even think about telling me that if the EBT system goes down for a while, there wont be mass panic.

One of the main problems with this overpopulation and why I think so many would die without electricity is because you can't find clean drinking water in the wild anymore.  Pretty fucked up, we dump our shit and piss into our clean bodies of water.  That is why water must be treated.  In the wild animals shit and piss into the dirt which replenishes nutrients over time and is how nature intended.

We humans wash our shit straight into our rivers, creaks and lakes.  Look at Haiti when it had the earthquake a few years ago.  They had a huge cholera outbreak.  It doesn't take a fucking scientist to figure out that you shouldn't have to boil fresh water in order to drink it.  How the fuck did our ancestors survive before they discovered fire?

But no, it is taboo to discuss population control.  God sometimes I think humanity is a cancer on the planet, a parasite that is out of control, an uninvited guest, an unintended byproduct of evolution gone terribly wrong.  If the planet could cry I think we would all be hearing it sob for how much we have fucked it up.
