Help & Suggestions / Re: Suggestion for the "Like" feature
« on: November 18, 2014, 02:15:05 pm »
It still looks bad to me.
I don't think it needs to be fancy, just mimic the quote link, a simple icon and a bold text is all it needs.

Fun fact: you can't physically have more than 140 true friends at once. Because your brain can't handle more.

That is entirely dependent on how many brain cells you have/your IQ

i knew someone who had almost 330 true friends (out of the 700 or so she added on fb). titties are GIVE ME ATTENTION bags

The 150 number, or Dunbar number, is an average estimation.
Some people get less than that and some people get more but overall, you can only get a friend close enough for roughly that number.

Spurious Generalities / Re: I purchased my first bitcoins today
« on: November 04, 2014, 09:57:24 am »
I am an early adopter (non-Day Trader). I haven't bought Bitcoin in 2+ years; I mostly mined before then. Now I just encourage people to buy/invest into Bitcoin for the long term.

Interesting, there are a lot of case where the very early adopter get a lot of wealth from that and quit their day job. Is this the case for you or do you only have just a little bit of bitcoin for saving? If you do, why are you stop getting more bitcoin? Maybe you can try to sell some bitcoins and buy an asic miners or something if you you think bitcoin really do prospective.

That looks nice, keep us updated. I'm interested on how will this go.

Also, are you interested on drop-shipping?
I never actually tried them, but from the sound of it you can try doing drop-shipping for no cost.
I read a thread on bhw forum that you can easily find a list of chinese supplier and put their products list on ebay or your blog.
It might worth a try if you have some free time.

joined just a week ago.

Off topic, it is interesting that this kind of thread get a lot of post.
This could be a sign that even if we abhor people that seek recognition on an online society, we are still interested on others opinion about ourselves.

Agreed, freedom is in the list of things that do not exist. We cannot reach total freedom due the conflict of our interests. The least we could do is to aim for self individual to have a little bit more liberty.

I am assuming you live in asia.  Everyone see this?  How come asia has top notch public transportation, while using public transportation in america often involves either smelling, seeing or even touching other humans bodily waste?  Has anyone ever wondered why this is?

Because.
I won't say the transportation here is top notch but the public transportation do get better each year. Our current government currently in the making of another mass relay transportation system.  It's only get better because of the last governance actually listen to people's complain and try to deal with the problem.

On topic of smell and sweat, thanks to the installation of air conditioner in all public buses and trains, it's not as bad as it used to be although we are still being crunched in rush hour. Even in japan they still have the same problem.

Expanding the current station and train will only lead to more inefficiency in non rush hour time while keeping them the way it is, is not really a good way to commute, it raises stress, creating a bad hub central for epidemic to spread, and many other problems. There are a lot of people trying to solve it. Some of the solution are actually well thought and interesting: Digitizing most of white collar jobs, creating a 4 days work week (your daily work hour increase by 2 hour to compensate), making some industry work hour to operate at night (programmers, designers, and some jobs are filled with night owls which actually making some of them more productive).

But changing the way industry work is really hard without proper incentive or strict regulation.

I wonder if they pay less taxes, too.  Americans who pay all their taxes are getting ripped the fuck off.

I'm not sure if our taxes is considered high so I'm going to list out income tax here:
- <$5,000: 5%
- $5,000 - $25,000: 15%
- $25,000 - $50,000: 25%
- >$50,000: 30%

You also get nontaxable income if you get married or have kids. For other taxes, most goods are taxed at 10%, 20% for the imported one. There's also a housing taxes but each region has a different regulation. And most of the time they are really lenient at taxes and only come to you when you reach the $100,000 mark. Even with that the last government here actually make some difference, better transportation and a very cheap healthcare for everyone, which really reminds me about this.

The only people who use public transport in my city are too poor and stupid to get even a $1000 old car. It's expensive as fuck but these poor get the monthly pass. If you don't have a car, you're an idiot in general.

I do have a car, but spending 3 hours in traffic really burns me out, unless I go with a lot of people or I carry a lot of stuff, either vacation or just visiting relatives. I just say it's not really worth it.

Help & Suggestions / Re: AdWords Spending Budget
« on: October 15, 2014, 06:56:00 pm »
Disregarding the quality of user that come from adwords, I am still in the opinion of using adwords a media for advertising the forum is not the right choice. The best ads is of course from the content itself, create a content, link it to the other site or let google webcrawler do their job and let the site grow organically. It's not like there are a time limit or anything. Unless you are thinking to put the adwords here which I'm fine with it due to my use of adblocks.

I too use public transportation for most of my trip. In here, the traffic is really crowded and it's not uncommon for people to get stuck for hours. Not to mention most of the trip cost for about $0.3 for bus and $0.5 for trains for which means I can practically go around the city with very little money.

Old School, New School, Fool School / Re: pros and cons of college
« on: October 14, 2014, 02:47:08 am »
College by itself, is not really worth the money, especially IT. I finished Information System major last year and when I got into a job I need to relearn everything. It's true that you do get one or two stuff in know how from college but most of the stuff that you need in the work comes from experience and self-study. There are a lot of free learning material online if you just aim for the knowledge and in IT all you need to to learn something is just a computer. Except of course if you venture into IC and machinery, even then there are cheaper alternative for that.

The real reason for college or university is of course, the channel. It is after all a community and you'll meet people that can help you to get a better opportunity even if you are not active in class. All you need to do is actually just ask, mainly the lecturer, I get some freelance IT jobs from there and now I can do some freelance code monkey full time.

Is it worth it? I'll say yes, if you want to get to college then go for it, it's okay not to get perfect attendance or anything as long as you try not to fail, it's perfectly fine to be average just watch the minimum passing grade, there will be a lot of people like you and if you can get a connection from it, I'll say you get the true value of college.

rebeca seems fitting.

I didn't really think you would actually change your user name, equanimity is actually better than this.
And changing to Rebecca kinda defeat the thread entire purpose, not that the thread actually have real purpose.
Are you sure about this?
