I am assuming you live in asia. Everyone see this? How come asia has top notch public transportation, while using public transportation in america often involves either smelling, seeing or even touching other humans bodily waste? Has anyone ever wondered why this is?
Because.
I won't say the transportation here is top notch but the public transportation do get better each year. Our current government currently in the making of another mass relay transportation system. It's only get better because of the last governance actually listen to people's complain and try to deal with the problem.
On topic of smell and sweat, thanks to the installation of air conditioner in all public buses and trains, it's not as bad as it used to be although we are still being crunched in rush hour. Even in japan they still have the same problem.
Expanding the current station and train will only lead to more inefficiency in non rush hour time while keeping them the way it is, is not really a good way to commute, it raises stress, creating a bad hub central for epidemic to spread, and many other problems. There are a lot of people trying to solve it. Some of the solution are actually well thought and interesting: Digitizing most of white collar jobs, creating a 4 days work week (your daily work hour increase by 2 hour to compensate), making some industry work hour to operate at night (programmers, designers, and some jobs are filled with night owls which actually making some of them more productive).
But changing the way industry work is really hard without proper incentive or strict regulation.
I wonder if they pay less taxes, too. Americans who pay all their taxes are getting ripped the fuck off.
I'm not sure if our taxes is considered high so I'm going to list out income tax here:
- <$5,000: 5%
- $5,000 - $25,000: 15%
- $25,000 - $50,000: 25%
- >$50,000: 30%
You also get nontaxable income if you get married or have kids. For other taxes, most goods are taxed at 10%, 20% for the imported one. There's also a housing taxes but each region has a different regulation. And most of the time they are really lenient at taxes and only come to you when you reach the $100,000 mark. Even with that the last government here actually make some difference, better transportation and a very cheap healthcare for everyone, which really reminds me about
this.
The only people who use public transport in my city are too poor and stupid to get even a $1000 old car. It's expensive as fuck but these poor get the monthly pass. If you don't have a car, you're an idiot in general.
I do have a car, but spending 3 hours in traffic really burns me out, unless I go with a lot of people or I carry a lot of stuff, either vacation or just visiting relatives. I just say it's not really worth it.
