I usually use kickass myself. Demonoid was put back online a while as well, but I don't use it anymore because it didn't seem to have much of a seeder base last time I checked it a couple months ago.

Reinvent Yourself / Re: Too old to wear Vans
« on: December 11, 2014, 04:13:30 am »
As of this moment I am wearing a pair of black vans skater shoes that I bought around 2005; not because they are stylish (they are marred and muddled with white primer paint) but because they are comfortable and dry and to give my standard issue winter boots a chance to dry out. At the time of purchase I figured I'd try out skate boarding, but gave up after failing miserably after a few basic tricks and deciding I'd save myself the future injuries and surgeries.

Normally I'd be a big proponent of Merrell shoes/boots, but it seems after they stopped being made with American Pride, and started being made with Chinese/Taiwanese sweat I've lost faith. My first pair of Merrell Mocs were bought in 2004, and lasted me until 2011-12, then I bought a replacement pair, same kind/different color/different country, the life span was significantly less then half of the last, the wear/tear/abuse was the same, only difference was country of manufacture, I've almost but not quite lost faith in the brand. It can't be a coincidence that the first pair was made in America and lasted close to a decade but the second pair manufactured in china lasted a fraction of the time. I'm still willing to buy a pair if the price is right but I'm doing research to branch out and put my hard earned money and trust into another brand/country of manufacture.

As of late I've been wearing my standard issue winter desert combat boots because I never wore them in the service and they are water proof and warm (but they roughly weigh about 6+ lbs/pair), however because they are pretty much my only waterproof pair of footwear I have to wear them on a continual basis for work, disallowing them time to dry out, and they stink to high heaven because of the lack of breathability. I was perusing black friday/cyber monday shopping for replacement footwear, but I'm not going to shell out $250 for a pair of boots just to pay for a name.

Instead of providing pictures and links to footwear of various shapes/styles/brands, I'm going to plug super feet insoles, because no matter the brand or type of footwear I decided to spend my hard earned monies on, those insoles have provided me 1-2 years of continuous comfort. They seem rather pricey compared to some of the Dr. Scholls inserts, but like Vibram soles are good for atleast a year of wear and tear. They run from 20-30 bucks for a pair of the insoles, but after about 30 days of breaking in will provide good support and shock absorption for atleast a year. I'm sure you could get away with $20-$30 shoes equipped with these insoles and get away with a year of comfort. Mind you the soles might outlast those walmart $20 clunkers, but after the break in period the soles pay for themselves in overall comfort and durability.

I wasn't a fan of 'em on Zoklet, and still not a fan on here, so I'll just continue to do what I did on Zoklet and ignore him. And no, I'm not talking about the ignore feature, I never used it, on the off chance that a subpar poster actually upped the ante and contributed something decent enough to read instead of scroll past. Kind of like TRK/tacho, I never ignored him because often times his posts were so ideologically hypocritical, they sometimes provided minor amusement.

Printed Matter / Re: having trouble keeping attention on books
« on: December 10, 2014, 03:41:27 pm »
It could have something to do with ADD/ADHD, but I think it's more likely you're just having trouble getting interested in the book itself. When I was younger I'd read almost every night before bed. I have ADD, and I would use a book as a tool to help me fall asleep. It took me a few years to realize this. At night right before bed, I'm not usually able to just lay my head down on the pillow and conk out, because my mind would bounce from this or that, and having my mind focus on one thing for an hour or two would help my mind focus on one thing, and finally gear down and relax enough for me to fall asleep.

This is also why I probably wear glasses today. As a littlun I had a bed time at 9 pm. I couldn't just conk out right away at 2100 because my mind was just as hyper at night as my body was during the day. So I'd read goosebumps (revenge of the garden gnomes was one I must have read over a dozen times) by nightlight for a few hours 'till I could fall asleep. Basically the equivalent of reading by candle light, the strain of focusing on small print in low light over time fucks with your eyesight.

I included the and/or part to address both yours and Zanicks post. I wish I saved my signature from Zoklet, it was the perfect tacho quote that showed his frustrating hypocritical racism. I think I didn't save it because it seemed like tacho didn't make the migration.

If well read and/or intelligent equated to sticking your head in the sand like an ostrich, then yes you could say that.

How exactly does one behave like an "angry atheist"? Violently shake a piece of blank paper?

When I see the two words angry atheist together, I'd be more prone to think of Nietzsche before Dawkins on any day of the week.

Fun fact: I damned near finished 'The God Delusion' while trying to ignore a crack rabbit preacher on the bus from Seattle. I couldn't resist nonchalantly pulling out that book and cracking it open as he goes on and on about what a fucking godly(For such a pious person he used excessive profanity to underscore how devout he was) person he was, and all his bad decisions were the equivalent of satan holding a gun to his head.

Guess I meant to say mean-spirited and pointless.  This is why I don't really care for Richard Dawkins and his brand of angry atheism- a person secure in their own beliefs shouldn't feel a need to make fun of others for what they believe.
I've read 'The God Delusion' (admittedly that's it) by Dawkins, and I didn't really get the feel of "angry atheism" out of that book.
...And I guess people secure in their own beliefs don't need to make fun of others, just off 'em. Here, you can hold on to my blanky while you step into that cold Iron Maiden. You should be glad people are just resorting to poking fun nowadays (at least in this part of the world).

This sort of thing is really silly.

No, actually it isn't. Its much less silly then being allowed to get your picture taken for government issued ID while wearing full head gear because you believe in some completely retarded religion that has no proof for any of its claims. At least this is comical and it still shows your face.

This I concur with. "religious persecution" for insisting that you want to conceal your face for an identification photo. Almost as ridiculous as claiming that it's somehow racist to require photo ID to cast a ballot.

How is it mean spirited?  They're mocking real religions, and the people that wear head coverings that have actual religious significance.
Hate to break it to ya, but pastafarianism is recognized as a "real religion."

I went to high school with a Christian girl who always wore head coverings, and sometimes people said really hurtful things to her for it.
...And I'm sure her faith in a jewish zombie was all the stronger for it, right?

Bad Ideas / Re: Just Been To Court!

Some churches do 'coffee & donuts' after they hold mass. You can volunteer to  help run the feeding for easy community service. You can get 3-4 hours every sunday for just brewing coffee, and giving people pastries.

Bad Ideas / Re: Suicide by Fire

pretty sure people could get in legal trouble for advising you on how to kill yourself
Heh, IIRC- assisted suicide is legal in some states like Oregon. I'm sure they define the required circumstances so this thread wouldn't fly, but hey if you're willing to do some research and move to the coast, atleast you know where to start right?

News of the Sanctuary / Re: The New Rules (Currently in Beta)
« on: October 29, 2014, 04:53:50 am »
The great thing about this thread, is any new users wanting to find out about the rules, or the implementation of the rules....will see Lanny droning on and on and on for 5+ pages asking the same questions, making the same erroneous arguments, and pouting again and again and again all because he can't take "no" as an answer. Helluva way to show people how immature, stupid, toxic, and outright insane one is....but its a nice commentary/legacy in regard to what Lanny is about, and why he enjoys being on message boards so much.

Sadly, I was thinking something along those lines right before your post. I got suckered into reading 6 pages of huff n puff because I was curious about the new rules, and the discussion that would follow to improve on the rules.

As far as the market place subforum, howabout having relatively new users need to have their posts moderator approved in that forum. I realize that would probably bar me from making an instantaneous ad for selling my pokemon cards, but that wouldn't bug me. Plus don't you think it'd be cool to be able to buy another knife from the Zodiac killer?

As far as PI, I really don't care. Though personally I think things like one's first name if it was mentioned on this site would be appropriate.
And the 'culturally relevant' clause in the PI rule could be used as a basis for arguing for some of the types of pictures lanny is mentioning like pictures circulated around zoklet (IE the collage). The collages should just be allowed on the principle that those pictures were user submissions. Though, consulting a mod before PI posting could be a way to avoid petty disagreements about PI.

Honestly I think all of lanny's huff n puff could just be solved if the PI in question be mod consulted/approved.

As far as HB is concerned, I say just let that stick to the original &T HB spirit. But keep it to just HB. If you just let them be and do their own thing, they generally are harmless.

When SHTF / Re: Need help for survival tactics
« on: October 29, 2014, 12:44:52 am »
Don't forget to include things like fishing (if you're near water) or traps/snares, so you can add some protein to your freshly foraged berries.
And while you're at it, it couldn't hurt to go over basic survival shelters like igloos or snow caves, and lean-to's, or several methods one could start a fire without using lighters/matches.

The way local news media is painting it is more along the highschool sweetheart breakup angle for a motive. I havn't heard anything about being bullied at all. Why mr. prom king decided to shoot some family members isn't what piqued my curiosity. What's got me wondering is the fact that just a week or two ago there was a "school shooting drill" involving the local firefighters in WA, and there are currently two gun-related initiatives on the ballot. One that's short, sweet and to the point, protecting the 2nd, and mirroring federal laws already in place. The other consists of four pages chock full of gobbledygook, scaring people about a non-existent loop-hole while expanding background checks that exceed federal standards.

Spurious Generalities / Re: 4 loko ruined my life
« on: October 24, 2014, 05:26:52 am »
Since Washington has had over 250 micro breweries, I've been a bit of a PNW beer snob. Instead of buying 211's or Mikes/4locos I've preferred to spend the extra buck or two to drink quality ingredients that wouldn't afflict me with a debilitating hangover. I generally buy craft and microbrews from WA, OR, or CA. For a couple years now I've been happy paying $9.84 for a six pack of Lagunitas Maximus.

4 locos lemon was the fucking worst. Drinking a couple got me amped up but stop taking them because its too sweet. I'm glad they don't sell it here anymore.

the first time I ever had a four loko was more than four years ago and by that time they didn't have caffeine in them anymore.. alcohol gets me amped just on it's own. but after 2 four lokos I fall asleep. one time I drank four four lokos and I became loco

Me and my highschool chums would buy 'em (when they had the energy drink ingredients) down the street from our school at the little ma/pop corner store universally known as the Gook Mart. It was pretty convenient, you could buy your weed, cigarettes and booze all in the same spot. 2 was usually the average limit for us. Sure as 150-170 lb males we could handle typically 4 tops. anything beyond that even we realized as HS kids that it was going to get you too FUBAR, and make you wish you weren't alive the next day, if you didn't get Alcohol Poisoning first that is. The energy drink ingredients were banned from those drinks after several ditzy college bitches drank 5+ each, and screamed they've been date rape drugged. I saw the pictures of the girls, and they definitely weren't obese, most of then looked to be 100-120 lbs tops.
