Title: Outlander Restrictions (UPDATE)
Post by: Arnox on September 09, 2014, 09:14:47 am
Due to the most recent posting of CP spam, I have decided on a new rule.

EDIT: I have recently gotten ahold of a mod that will let us set BBC permissions for certain users. So I have good news and bad news. First thing you need to know though is that the posts needed to get to Adherent rank has risen from 6 to 20.

The good news is, post moderation has been turned off. You guys are free to post without a member of staff watching over your back.

The bad news is that all Outlanders can no longer post images until the next rank, Adherent which takes 20 posts to get to. This may be increased somewhat as well if we keep getting CP spam.

Once again, sorry for the inconvenience, everyone.

And so the lockdown begins. I think it's pretty lulzy that the utter incompetence of a majority of Zoklet's staff pissed someone off to the extent that they're now trying to destroy this site in the most risky and illegal manner possible.

Due to the most recent posting of CP spam, I have decided on a new rule.

I have lowered the posts it takes to get to the Adherent post rank (second post rank above the first, Outlander) down to 6. Why have I done this now, you ask? Well, because now, all Outlanders require their posts to be approved by a member of staff before they are actually posted. This measure will be kept until an unspecified date.

Also, all members who were Outlanders before under the old system will need to have a post of theirs approved due to the fact that the forum doesn't update the users rank until they post. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

How many days before a post is approved ?

It took 4 days when I reported a post for someone to get back to me.

As soon as a member of staff comes online to do it. I'm on here daily at least. And you're already approved so it's fine.

That's because I dismissed the report and later found out that the report was legit.

Seems like a lot of work for you guys.  I'm afraid it might be too much and you will get disenchanted and not care about anything anymore.

Just sayin'

I doubt there will be any huge influxes in site traffic anytime soon, so I can't imagine this becoming too much for the admins to handle. Six posts is a very reasonable number. Sounds like a good idea.

Arnox and I have been pretty active.

Once the new users are approved and reach Adherent rank, they shouldn't have any issues outside of regular rule violations.  This measure is very reasonable compared to the alternative - being subjected to CP and spam that really turns normal people away from the site.

It 's clear to me that the cp poster is tupac from avoyel. When we temporarily decided to advertise them, the cp stopped completely, did it not? Tupac ADMITTED himself to being banned on 4chan for spamming cp.

The fucking idiots are desperate to redirect zoklet's migration to their website after it's closing, and have completely soured their name in this community. What stupid fucking management 'muffins' and tupac are implementing. they are incompetent in every area of their life and I KNOW they haven't covered their tracks completely. Arnox, please report these losers before you may be held accountable for their stupidity.

The only solution is to compete with them, if they spam CP, you SPAM MORE CP!

In the end they will give up and you will have an influx of users. It's a win/win, although you will probably get arrested, a minor set back.

I think we were a little unclear about that.  Avoyel admitted to the DDoS attacks, but the same individuals were not responsible for the CP spam attacks, though they may also be from Avoyel.  My  ill-conceived plan of advertising their website was to fend off the DDoS attacks.  The CP spam stopped at that time because registration was closed.

Not unless the user is running an old, exploitable version of the Tor browser, or doing something stupid like using flash player with socket connections enabled. If they're running something like Whonix VMs with torrent traffic going through a VPN on the host, even time correlation attacks are ineffective. This is how many of the smarter hidden service operators hide themselves from the authorities.

ya but whonix network time sync fucks up all the time. It really does, everytime its bootstrapped it should be done again, most people don't know this and 0 day attacks are still vulnerabilities. Look up whonix documentation, openvpn offshore paid with BTC on the host is kinda a must but there are still vulnerabilities in that.

I believe those two accounts were active and at Adherent rank already, so this measure didn't catch them.  However, it is working and we have been approving a ton of posts, trust me.  If new accounts are created, then they will require approval before being moved out of Outlander rank and before any posts will show up.

Obviously it works for those 6 posts but doesn't really solve the issue only giving you guys maybe a slight heads up before they spam by having to approve some mildly suspect posts it's really only a stopgap and just gives you as moderators more work approving posts without really stopping spam waves

That's not how it works.  A post does not count towards the post count until it is approved.  So they can post as many posts as they want, but their post count will remain zero until the posts or approved, or unless they already met the requirement of Adherent rank.

That's not how it works.  A post does not count towards the post count until it is approved.  So they can post as many posts as they want, but their post count will remain zero until the posts or approved, or unless they already met the requirement of Adherent rank.

I understand that I don't see how that changes what I said they make 6 posts and wait for them to be approved once they've met the requirement they begin spamming it's slowing them down but they obviously have multiple accounts and can wait

I hope I don't get canned.  I was on here at work when it started happening, but luckily our firewall blocked any of the images from displaying.  We'll see if some IT administrator comes and talks to me tomorrow.

this is what I mean this is a hell of a toll for you as a moderator with a job and family this is serious shit that you shouldn't be having to deal with alone

It sucks that no matter what restrictions/changes Arnox puts in, they still seem to get around it somehow.

Doesn't work if you approve every post, just gives you busy work.
