Need Advice
« on: December 02, 2014, 06:37:06 pm »
I worked at a somewhat smallcompany for 4 years.  They ran out of work and loaned me and other employee's out for 3 months.  Still had no work.  They set me up with a job at anotjer company.

Second company is very large.  Pay is better, they offer overtime and the work is easy.  But i feel like a small fish in large pond.  Feel expendable at this company.  They are notorious for laying people off after large jobs are completed.

I've been going to school for 3 months.   My final 3 months.  After this I go back to work.  My old company now has work and want me back.  I can choose which one to work for.  Should I be loyal to the old company, which pays me me doesn't offer overtime but would probably give me a better position and mote challenging work which could help my career.  Or the new company that pays better but doesnt have as challenging work which won't help help career, and could possibly see me as expendable.  What would you do?

I have a few days before I must decide.
All of the true things I am about to tell you are shameless lies.

I would definitely go with the old company, unless you are under some sort of crippling debt. The old company cared enough about you to help you find work when they had none for you. In my non-expert opinion I would think that would be a better company to work for because while the pay may be less in the short term, you have way better job security, and I'd also bet working conditions there are better because you probably get to work with cooler people etc.

Plus working for big corporations sucks. Everyone is worried about corporate bullshit. I know it's probably not the same really, but I work at a small coffee shop and have friends that work for starbucks and goddamn. I'm glad I don't have to put up with the shit they do.

Oh yea and that small company will eventually grow so you have a better chance to move to a higher position I would think.
