hot peppers
« on: November 29, 2014, 08:32:07 pm »
Just bought some habaneros because I'm making Indian style lentils and the peppers they use aren't hot enough. Anyways I remembered back to when I was like 16, my friend dared me to eat one, so I popped it in my mouth and chewed the fuck out of it. It was extremely hot and i almost threw up and took like an hour for the burn to stop. So today I was chopping up a habanero and I decided to eat a small piece of one raw, still hot as fuck but obviously not anywhere near the whole one I ate. But then I had to take a piss so I went and touched my junk with the same fingers and it started burning for a while but I just hopped in the shower and now everything is fine.

Anyways what's the hottest pepper you've eaten? Or post other hot pepper related stories.

Oh I have one more. I was walking around one night in Bangkok and was getting hungry so I stopped at this little roadside restaurant thing and ordered some spicy seafood soup with rice. It was fucking amazing but so damn hot. It took me like an hour to finish because it was so fucking spicy but I couldn't stop eating it. Then the next day I went to Koh Tao to do scuba diving and felt sick for like a whole week. I thought I was gonna vomit underwater a couple of times.

Back in high school something similar happened to me with habaneros. In my bio class we were making kimchee, and I brought in some habaneros for spice. Someone dared me to eat one for $20, but one bite and I was toast. Later went to pee, and you know the rest.

A couple weeks ago I put some baht jolikia sauce (680,000 scoville) in my soup. One drop was enough. Then I coughed while slurping. Hot sauce all up in my sinuses. It was a manly shriek, I swear.
I'll try anything once, and twice to be sure.

That's awesome. Kim chi is awesome. Little known fact, my user name came from a habit I had of getting really stoned and then eating kim chi with pb and j because I'm poor/cheap. I want to hear some more stories though. I saw a video of some guy eating pure capsaicin on youtube the other day, shit looked intense.

I have a habanaro shaker and no matter how much you tell someone to go easy on it and taste the food after a couple shakes before adding more they always go nuts with it because they don't see any flakes. Nothing crazy but kind of funny. Its like psychology or something - they want to see it like when they add black pepper.

I always keep habeneros in the fridge...I've gotten to the point where I can down one, wait 5 minutes, sip down a glass of milk and I will be fine.

tabasco is like ketchup

I am growing a scorpion pepper, because, as I understand it, the average scorpion pepper is hotter than the average ghost pepper.

I worked at a pizza place, and the cooks had a going contest to see who could come up with the hottest sauce. one of the cooks got this stuff called "the source". he touched a toothpick to the cork of the vial, there was no visual amount of fluid on the toothpick. I touched it to my tongue, and I had this whole-body burn for like 4 hours...no amount of soda could cure it, and we didn't have milk.

this shit is no joke...7.1 million scoville units

http://www.amazon.com/The-Source-Sauce-Million-Scoville/dp/B001BIXJG2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417397832&sr=8-1&keywords=the+source+hot+sauce

anyways, I've gotten conditioned to be able to eat hot stuff no problem from all the comida mexicana I've eaten while I lived in texas, and apparently Pennsylvanians just don't have any tolerance for hot food...the stores don't even sell "hot" salsa. some kid down the hall saw me down a habenero one night, so he tried one. he hallucinated, and drank a bottle of coffee creamer. lol

Ill give you a hands-free prostate exam with the same instrument I use as a tongue depressor

The current hottest peppers are the chocolate bhutlah and the Carolina reaper. I believe the reaper was the Guinness record's holder in 2013; I think the bhutlah has been bred to the F5 or F6 generations, so it should be stable enough to win the record this year or next. The world record is not necessarily the best guide to which is the hottest, because different capsaicinoids produce different levels of heat, but the records are for capsaicin only. Here is a list of the hottest pods currently available and where to buy seeds (and sometimes cuttings).

A friend of mine from zoklet had a vial of 99.8% capsaicin powder out when I visited him one time. That shit is like weapons grade hot, it was 14,250,000 SHU (pure capsaicin is 16 million SHU).

I love the flavor of the habenero peppers and actually make some wings with it. The regular wing sauce just tastes like gross vinegar to me. I dehydrated some once and ground them up in the spice grinder and mixed with granulated garlic, chipotles for smoky flavor and some herbs...made a great dry rub for all kinds of stuff. I even tossed some on some veggies mmmmm.
