Has therapy really helped anyone here?
« on: November 20, 2014, 08:56:06 am »
Sometimes it seems therapy is only helpful for certain kinds of people, and I'm not one of them.  Feel like a hypocrite working in healthcare for these years and talking people into going to their therapy and stuff.  Like, "Oh man dude, it's a really good thing to do.  Therapy can be so helpful!"

I've had so many therapists over the years.  First time was age 9, was dealing with depression stuff.  None of it was very helpful.  The only times I started to get better were when I decided that I was going to get better and put the effort in.  Gonna start seeing a new therapist soon here, but I kinda think it's just a waste of money.  Not the right attitude to have.

Hopefully the same will not be true of your children.

The only times I started to get better were when I decided that I was going to get better and put the effort in.

Unsurprising. A fabricated mental illness is often best 'fixed' by the one who fabricated it.

Tried therapy. Didn't do shit. They just enabled my bad habits. Shit only improved when I stopped making excuses and started actively trying to improve my situation. But I wasn't that fucked up. It might actually work for people that are more fucked up

Therapists don't magically fix your brain. They can only really give advice and give you the tools to help yourself. A lot of you seem to have some sort of misunderstanding, or inaccurate expectation with regards to what they can actually do, directly.

I've watched every Ray Lewis motivational video on Youtube and I feel like it helped me more than any therapist could.

ALL I KNOW IS GRIND!
The staff are like kids running around with jars trying to catch lightning bugs, but they don't realize that the bugs are really wasps...really big wasps, and they aren't lightning bugs at all, they are just carrying flaming torches.  Hilarity will soon ensue.
