Help me quit etizolam
« on: November 17, 2014, 01:07:07 am »
I'm at the end of my rope here and i'm ready to get the fuck off benzos once and for all. Been taking 4mgs of it a day for as long as I can remember. really not a problem until recently since I've been put on probation and don't want to violate if I ever get drug tested. My first visit with my PO I told her I violated probation by tapering off "xanax" and she's like ok thats fine now that you're off the xanax. She didn't drug test me but you know they'll throw a DT in there some time during my year long probation. Probably next visit for her to see if I've really stopped the drug use.

Not only for my legal predicament but for my mental health as well. long term benzo use can lead to alzheimers I've read and thats just something i'd much rather avoid.

So what would be the best course of action here? Going to a doctor and trying to get a legit benzo subscription and then tapering off on my schedule using the ashton manual method of it? Always the chance of the Doctor not prescribing the benzo and giving some other shit like an antidepressant. Being straight up with a doctor and saying i'm addicted and I'd like to have some k-pins or something with a long half life to help me ween off? This would for sure put me on a list of drug users database or whatever and get prescribed Ibuprofen instead of opiates should I sustain some painful injury in the future. Rehab center seems a bit over kill, though probably what I need. This would in turn cost lots of money, cause lots of embarrassment amongst my family, and cause me to lose my job.

I really don't know what to do. Trying to get a legit script for anxiety seems the best option here unless I can use something like phenibut(of which i have 100gs) or other gabagenerics if there are any to replace benzos and not cause a positive benzo reault on a drug test that may or may not happen. My charge had nothing to do with drugs so I might not ever get drug tested but still I want to get off this shit and start the long process of mental recovery so I can be me old self again instead of benz'd out all day.

can you not taper etizolam? I don't know about a schedule, but maybe have a set daily dose and halve every week or two?

I guess it depends on how long you've been at it and how addicted you are. if willpower/keeping to the schedule is a problem, do you have a friend or family member that can hold onto it and act as a dispenser?

oh yes i can taper etizolam, and i'm doing so now trying to cut .5mg every week but the issue is next month at my PO visit I don't know if I'll be drug tested and violate my probation and go to prison for 2 years, hence wanting to have a legitimate script would be best case scenario methinks. My PO seems real nise so maybe if I go to a Narcotics Anonymous class or two before my next visit and just level with her that I relapsed she'll have mercy on me seeing i'm trying to deal with it, and not send me to prison.

Tell the doctor about your habit.  Emphasize you're afraid of having seizures, and even lie and say you've had them in the past when quitting those doses cold turkey.  I've done that before myself when I actually was afraid of having another seizure, and it worked.

Only gave me like 2-3 day's worth though, because they weren't my primary care GP as I was in another state.  They may refer you elsewhere, but so long as you're actively seeking medical help and following their instruction you won't get in any trouble here.  Get that initial script and go from there.  You don't have to tell your PO why you're on a script, and just having it will be enough to keep you safe from the law.

Since this is a already a thread on what I was considering. . .

Over roughly the past 5 weeks I've been through 94mg of etizolam (about to be 95, fuck it) and I'm not sure how much alcohol.  Probably about 2x bottles of wine 3x a week give or take, which I've been keeping to in the past quite regularly.  I've often been taking at least take .5 in the morning, but no large doses.  I've never gotten the shakes or anything like that in the past from drinking or other benzo use.

Do you think I'll experience withdrawals?  I'm thinking of just getting some valerian root and tapering my (now) last 5mg in .5mg in halves when needed and maybe a tall can if things get too antsy.  Really I'm concerned about some sort of withdrawal induced panic attack.  Already I'm a pretty antsy guy, so if it were to happen I'd say I'm good candidate.  The thing is it seems like that first GABA withdrawal induced panic attack can open the flood gates to the flood of shit.

Also to OP:  While I know they are not exactly similar have you considered using some shit like gabapentine for the end of a taper?  It is lame but seems to help from what I've read.  Also pretty legal (as opposed to prison sentences for a scheduled drug) without a script as far as meds go in most place.  I'll also make a wild guess and say it wont show up and a standard drug panel.

I was pretty prone to seizures even before developing epilepsy so it could have just been bad luck in my case, but I've ended up seizing after taking roughly that much over a month or so.  If you can afford it please see a doctor and explain to them what's up, but say you've been taking clonazepam or something.  With etiz being a somewhat lesser known analogue they may not take you as seriously, and it could result in more drugs being scheduled in time.  Really emphasize that you're freaked out you might have seizures.

A lot of the time with benzo withdrawal I wouldn't get shaky, and only felt very slightly "off" a couple hours before the seizure occured.  Sometimes I didn't even notice and just ended up seizing at school or something, which is totally embarrassing and expensive because someone always flips out and calls 911.  Like we can afford ambulance rides, amirite? :/

Benzo WD is nothing to fuck with.  Unless you have a really good reason not to, like you're wanted for murder or something, do whatever you can to see a doctor and get slowly weaned off.  Lest you end up needing expensive surgeries or something lol :(

Also, for Haiti... if you're seeking medical help in quitting your drug addiction the legal way, there are laws in place to protect you from losing your job.  It's very unlikely your employer would fire you for following doctor's orders and heading to rehab.  And if they did you'd have grounds for a legal case.

Coming off this stuff the safe way will take several weeks of very slowly lowering dosages.

Goddammit Haiti, can you really not think of a better strategy than that? There are other anxiolytics that don't show up on drug tests.
