Im pretty sure its just fine to shoot someone who is assaulting you and grabbing for your gun. I don't understand how people can be of the mindset that an officer should NEVER shoot an unarmed person when that would literally mean if I went into a preschool and started kicking and punching toddlers to death and would not stop, the police would have to respond with "Well he isn't armed so shooting him isn't an option" no matter how many kids I have killed or have the potential to kill.

Just because someone isn't armed doesn't mean they aren't a lethal threat.

Really not the best example to make your point lol.  Cops have been known to kill innocent bystanders in their efforts to stop the bad guys, and to shoot at a person in such close proximity to toddlers is a bad fucking idea.  And really, how hard could it be to stop one guy?  Run up there and grab him, or smack him in the head with a baton.

And if people reaching for cop's guns is such a big problem, then the obvious solution is to remove the gun from the equation.  The police could still have firearms but there is no reason for them all to be so heavily armed the entire time they're on duty.  Why not keep the guns locked in their trunks or something?

You don't understand the definition of murder. In America, cops and citizens are allowed to shoot people who pose a realistic threat to their life. Just Mike Brown attempting to take the gun is a reasonable threat, charging at him is another. If you stopped a 6'4 300lb thug on the street and asked him politely to move to the sidewalk, and he suddenly starts chimping out on you and attempts to take your open carry firearm, you can legally shoot him and not spend a day in prison.
