I was thinking about going to Pittsburgh to vist some friends.

PA does so much stupid shit. You can't get beer anywhere you have to go to beer distributor stores. Some grocery stores sell beer now though. Sundays you can only buy beer from 12-5 PM (unless you get a six pack or two from a bar) and same deal with liquor although not many liquor stores are open on Sundays.

At OP - definitely check Pittsburgh out I've been just about everywhere in the US and it really is a nice city compared to  well Philadelphia for example.
