Glad to see the direction in which the Cosmos revamp went. I loved the old Carl Sagan Cosmos and its nice to see Neil DeGrasse Tyson giving an inspiring and informative look at the universe and relate it meaningfully to the world around us. I finished the first episode in the series about our cosmic address. I thought it was a good way of showing the magnitude and scale of everything. Though I didnt like the end where he explains the timeline of the life of the universe as if it were one year. They basically picked four months and explained them well but went too in depth on the human element. I wanted to see what happened in between the time of the galaxy's formation and the suns and the earths.
I did love the historical subplot. Thought it was very well animated.

Currently watching the second episode. Evolution is cray.

No ive not seen it Sig but i have been watching the universe on History channel been real interesting ill have a look for this cosmos, i can watch stuff like this all day haha

That is also a very good program pretty similar to Cosmos. I just love watching the animations of things like dwarf stars explode into black holes or other dimensions. Makes me think about how insignificant everything we as humans have achieved in the grand scheme of things.

I watched up until I think episode 6 of the new ones, my dad had all the old Cosmos on tape with Carl Sagan, hated watching them when I was a little kid but am very glad to have now.

In the same boat. I used to watch The Universe all the time when I was younger, it's probably the main reason I'm a Physics major now. I loved Carl Sagan's Cosmos, but I still don't know how I feel about Neil. He reminds me of a scientific Bill Cosby.

I laughed out loud at the absurdity of the thought. I mean, picturing Bill Cosby presenting a show of scientific nature was funny enough, but having an intellectually engaging science program presented by Tyson, a fucking nigger? hilarious!

Here is an excerpt from the linked article basically summing up how wrong Tyson is.

Neil deGrasse Tyson’s story has three central claims: 1) Bush uttered that precise phrase, 2) in the days immediately after 9/11, 3) in order to distance American religion from that practiced by radical Muslims.

As you have probably already guessed, every single claim is false. Every one! Then there’s Tyson’s aside that Bush’s quote was a “loose quote” of the book of Genesis. Yep, that’s false, too. Add embarrassing biblical illiteracy to Tyson’s list of accomplishments on his CV.

First off, Bush never uttered the quote attributed to him by Tyson. He did, however, include a separate but similar phrase in a February 2003 speech immediately following the Columbia space shuttle disaster:

    In the skies today we saw destruction and tragedy. Yet farther than we can see, there is comfort and hope. In the words of the prophet Isaiah, “Lift your eyes and look to the heavens.  Just started watching the Cosmos series the other day.. Love being turned out to all that otherwise outside knowledge. The two episodes I watched were on Space and Time. Think it was the first 2 episodes (obviously).. But even, just those two.. all the thoughts to be had. Beautiful Chaos.
