The Official M1911 Thread
« on: October 29, 2014, 07:55:16 pm »
ITT We talk about one of John Browning's masterpieces, the M1911 and its many offshoots and derivatives.

I'm a huge fanboy of the 1911 actually. Still don't have one yet but if I could, to start, I would get the Colt Series 70. (standard M1911A1) Unfortunately though, they cost upwards of $1,000 now. Utterly ridiculous.

So, I'll probably have to settle for a Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec.

Ultimately though, here's my wishlist for my 1911.

5'' Gov't Model
GI Guide Rod, not Full Length
Stainless Steel Slide and Frame
7-8 Round Single Stack
Forged and Machined Single-Sided Safety
Adjustable Sights, Night Sights preferred but not important
Chambered in .45 ACP

Yes. That's quite a nice gun you have there.

Actually, out of curiosity, who manufactured that?

Shoot one before you buy. If you're used to modern designs you may be disappointed by the 1911 platform. They're beautiful pistols, but are mediocre pistols by today's standards

Well, you can expect the value there to go up by three times the usual amount you would pay for such a fancy gun. Seriously, that's the only problem with Colt 1911's. A whole lot of them are so bloody expensive.

is that the 100 year anniversary edition?

If it is. Is the writing engraved or leafed into the finish? I've heard the finish on the anniversary ones was semi shoddy as seems to be the case with a lot of their custom shop lately.
