Discussion of Whether or Not to Isolate the Meth Topics
« on: August 10, 2014, 12:48:18 am »
Although a recent thread on this was created, three of us were discussing this in the IRC and I felt we should begin this discussion again with a common base for all of us to keep us all on the same page.

So edify and ChrisHansensGhost have proposed that, due to the possibility of the large quantities of meth topics in the Recent Topics bar steadily driving away other users, we should remove the meth topics from the Recent Topics bar and segregate it further into its own sub-forum.

Personally, I greatly question this supposed possibility as to why the forum has been so dead lately. Anyway, everyone post your arguments for or against this proposed action here. Thank you.

First, why do you refuse to acknowledge that maybe the meth heads do no good for the site image? I have no problem with that fact that they are on the site. But when I come here and see almost every recent topic is about meth it shows that no one here really cares to talk about much else. This would highly discourage non meth related posting and if I wanted to talk about something other than meth and was thinking of registering i probably wouldn't. You know they don't want to make their own forum and they will use yours for their own purpose. They dont care about the ideals totse holds. They only care about meth.

Why do you refute that this may be part of the reason the forum has been so dead? The forum has been dead because the userbase has been heard and ignored time and time again. We have tried to say "Hey, meth has a really bad connotation and people who want to discuss interesting things and share useful information don't want their posts to be lost in a sea of threads on a singular topic" Are we really asking too much for you to hide something that turns a lot of people off?

If I may ask, why do you so greatly question the possibility that meff heads are driving people away?

I can tell you for a fact meth posting has driven at least myself as The Smith and Thumper from &T2 and it worked pretty good on me here too.

Not very many people want to share conversations with tweakers and I can also tell you it makes a horrible impression on anyone new to the concept of totse. I wouldn't be inclined to lead anyone to a site that is a glorified drug forum catering almost exclusively to basement cooks and rot heads.

I would prefer not to share my knowledge of firearms with a user base that would most likely use that knowledge to shoot me in the face cause they were tweaked the fuck out.

I think the fact that the users in question haven't taken the opportunity to defend their contribution to this forum speaks volumes about their attitude towards it.

Why do  "The users in question" that post content that conforms with the site rules need to defend their contributions? It only stands to reason that the lack of contributions by core members will make the contributions made by "the users in question" stand out.

Well you cant blame the sorry state of this site on the tweakers. They just sat back and watched you and your core fuck up their "Sanctuary".

TWEAKERS   2

FAGS            0

This shows how parasitic you are. TWEAKERS don't care for this site other than the fact that it is somewhere you can talk about meth. The FAGS are the ones who care about not only this site but the legacy it is supposed to uphold and its image. An image being dirtied by all this out in the open talk about meth.

The meth heads are parasites. I will prove it:
1. We were a community who loved and laughed (FAGS)
2. that community was invaded by an insurgent community (TWEAKERS)
3. the insugents redirected the entire direction of the site towards their own ends
4. The owner of that site refused to do anything about the problem
5. that site does down
6. the users migrated to darkbb
7. the insugents followed redirecting the entire direction of the site towards their own ends
8. the users migrated to a different site altogether
9. the insugents followed redirecting the entire direction of the site towards their own ends
10.Since nothing is to be done about the insugency what is the next logical step for the users when they cannot do anything about the insurgents? They leave because the insurgents have pillaged and burned all that was good about those places.

Then why are "the Fags" not posting content?

It's pretty demonstrable by the fact that there was a lot of users who spoke out about them in multiple places on the old sites who currently want no part of what it became or what this is becoming.

Ugh, not this shit again. Give them a place to propagate, just remove them from the new topics bar. Everyone keeps talking about the idea of totse, what it was about, wanting to not drift from it and then you all keep shitting all over it. It should be no boundaries, no bars like the original.

Another totse site just opened up, btw, with ALL of the archived, original content.

Cool. Where is it located?

You know, we, as veterans of totse2 have went through crap before. Whether it was drama from one user or staff arguments or server problems or etc. But even after we've gone through all that nonsense, it seems the one thing that people WON'T tolerate at all is simply other users posting about a singular topic. Doesn't that seem even a little strange?

Especially considering that on this site, you can filter what you see in the Recent Topics (assuming you're not a guest) bar and the 'Posts since last visit.' buttons next to your profile.

Remember when we had the porn passes problem on totse2? This is pretty similar in that the image of the site is sullied by such content being so publicly displayed. Its not that we aren't tolerating them its the image they give the site. Its the impression one gets from seeing "METH METH METH METH METH METH METH METH". As I have said in previous posts methamphetamine has a terrible connotation to the general public. As far as I know this should be a website that attracts people who want to exchange ideas openly and foster creativity and intelligent, thoughtful conversation. That's not going to happen as long as we don't do anything about making an atmosphere that is conducive to those aims.

Alright. I gotta be harsh here.

First of all, that site does NOT have all the original content. The site is using an archive of the old forum that you can find on The Pirate Bay. I looked at it myself and it is woefully incomplete and disjointed. Not complete enough or even in a satisfactorily working state to be used.

Second of all, the site looks a little sloppily done. Like it was slapped together almost. Now, to be fair, if he did just start the site up then I can see why it would look like that but even totse2.net in its beginnings didn't look that bad. :P

Third of all, I see that I have to be a member to view posts which is in my list of top 10 annoyances with numerous forums. As such, I was immediately driven off.

And finally, there aren't any members there at all nor have there been. Now, that's kinda not the forum admin's fault but still, it's not that great of a sign.
