You're right... Belgian lagers are ok to good but definately not great.  Stella being about the shittiest of all.  Try jupiler if you can find it.  It's the most popular here.  For really good lager, go danish ('probably the best beer in the world' or so they say themselves) or Czech (urquell).  If you drink Bud or Heineken... buy me a plane ticket so i can come whoop ur ass

Rochefort is a very tasty beer.  As is Orval if you're into monk beer.
Duvel is another beer any beer enthousiast should try.

My personal favourite drinks:
single malt scotch and a very few blends (J&B and Famous Grouse)for taste
White porto for binging
white martini

Duvel is great. Orval is interesting because they make two versions of the beer, one for export and the other not for export. The exported version has slightly higher abv. I've tried both. They were very good and the difference was slight. Tasty tasty beer. Hercule stout from Belgium is also delicious.

You also can't drink premium top shelf $10 a six pack beers all day either. A lot beer snobs don't get that someone who drinks all day everyday doesn't have that luxury usually. For me I stick to Budweiser usually.

Hate to admit it but in summer i enjoy a corona or two with a slice of lime 
Corona being the only mexican beer available here... And it's far from cheap either.
