Yeah I had a friend who worked in Asda (the UK version of Walmart) and only the security can take someone but only if they are bigger then them by a distance.

Because if they get injured or a customer they get left with a massive lawsuit over a 50p/c drink

And virtually all walmart store policies say not to go after a shoplifter. Many workers have gotten fired for disregarding this policy.

true...but loss prevention (security) has no such constraints and is more than enthusiastic about chasing and/or getting physical with a shoplifter

Its true the security at Walmart will get you. I was guilty of this as a teen and learned first hand. The employees won't do shit but the security guys watching you on cam will.
