Yes, a SSN is needed to open a bank account.  I was asking if the quality of the ID is high enough to actually use it in a bank.

It would, but only with a real persons info, not a fictional one. So identity theft.

Most bank tellers aren't trained to spot fake IDs. However, they will take down your license info. Some banks require multiple pieces of ID to cash checks if you aren't a customer, and they won't cash checks drawn off of other banks if you don't have an account with them. So you could probably get away with cashing a check drawn off of a particular bank at that bank with a fake ID, but you might need another piece or two of ID if they have stricter security policies.
