Classic games you haven't played

Half-Life 1/2 (My brother had this for a while so I could have played it any time back then but I was too busy jerking off to Unreal Tournament and the like.)

Consider treating yourself to both, they are epic in ways no other games are.

Personally I know there's a few prominent titles I haven't played, but I couldn't name any now. Since I started playing video games in the late 80's, I've seen almost all of them. It's just the last few years and most of the newer big name titles I haven't played. But then they aren't classics are they

Never played Mario 64, Metroid, Final Fantasy (beyond a few minutes at a friends house), Spyro, Crash Bandicoot...

 Err.. the easier way to summarize this up would be, anything that was playstation or gamecube exclusive, plus a handful from the consoles I did actually own.. What can I say, I started with Xbox.. still with the Xbox. Actually started with Atari.. then NES.. then SNES.. then N64.. (for a short period.. only games were Donkey Kong, Pokemon Stadium, Perfect Dark, and a few others).. Then straight to Xbox and Xbox 360. Also owned a Gameboy advance, which I loved (still own just never play).. but the only games I ever bought for it were pokemon (blue, silver, crystal, sapphire) with the exception of the original Fire Emblem.. Then again, those games allowed for an incredibly long play-time.

wasteful uses of the imagination? what are you, an artist? Because if so, some people just dont have the talent.. and regardless, while I don't overly subscribe to playing video games, I feel as though it is a gateway for the imagination to wander and thrive.. especially when real life is chok full of mundane tasks and important responsibilities.. It's good to escape.. Some just never wander back.

What "classic" MMOs have you guys played?  I was into Ultima Online, EverQuest, and Dark Age of Camelot.  Barely played Asheron's Call.  Star Wars Galaxies and WoW don't count as classic imo

Not really into MMO's so I can't comment on them. But... Super Mario 64 is one of those breakthrough games, but you aren't missing much if you don't like platformers and/or can't play it on an actual N64. Metal Gear Solid is entirely another story, if you can stomach the ancient graphics of the original it's totally worth it. Top notch presentation, story, gameplay. Sometimes the dialog drags on a bit. MGS2 had even better gameplay, but the story got extra-convoluted and plain silly. MGS3... is a masterpiece. Try subsistence to get the full camera control, it makes a big difference - though still a bit tricky to control, it's just about perfect once you get the hang of it. imo the best of the lot. Unfortunately I don't know about all the recent games.

Half Life... it's technically an FPS, but the original was pretty groundbreaking because it melded the story seamlessly with the gameplay. There are no cut scenes, nor are there arbitrary level divisions. It's basically one long adventure, you play a scientist at the epicenter of a major disaster and you have to escape the massive research facility. You could watch play-throughs of it on youtube to get a look at what it's all about, but really playing it is the only way to understand it's brilliance. To explain the whole plot and how it's presented would be a page stretcher.

The sequel is just as good, though a bit different in a couple ways. The sequel has actual characters important to the plot, so you can't just go killing everyone and carry on your merry little way. But the story becomes quite engrossing, the graphics are still quite good despite it's age, the hyper-realistic (cough) physics make for some interesting gameplay. There are a couple of vehicle sections as well.
