NCAA Basketball Thread
« on: October 14, 2014, 11:09:48 am »
It's still a little bit away till Basketball season starts.. well, the only kind of basketball I really care for.

Coming from the BBN, it comes as no surprise I'm a University of Kentucky fan. And did anyone else check out the live practice aired on ESPN the other day.. Kentuckys team is so loaded with talent that Coach Cal just decided to get all the NBA scouts together as once to see his team, as to not distract them as regularly through the season. It's.. unprecedented.

I know a lot of people out there have hard feelings towards Coach Cal, but all in all, I like em. Regardless of the regular slander that unfortunately gets thrown in his direction, the fact stands that the guy is hella good at picking up talented recruits, and his coaching has to stand for something when you get that much talent to work together to do as well as Kentucky has over the past 5 years.

I mean, this season alone.. and this really is kind of ridiculous.. But I read somewhere, there has been realistic discussion somewhere that Kentucky may run.. err.. a two team... team. He could literally run (2) different 5-man groups per 20 min half, and not be losing out on any talent.

But anyways, anyone else looking forward to basketball season. What team do you support?

Not real  big on college hoops since I didn't go to college nor live near any D1 schools.  I start watching in March or the big regular season match ups too. I'll be a fairweather Texas fan if they're doing good or have some stud players like KD or Aldridge. Have they released preseason ranking?

These aren't official, but the main chatter has been centered around Kentucky and Duke. Looks like Duke has stepped up it's recruiting efforts and followed suit by eying Mcdonalds All-Americans like Coach Cal has been picking up season after season too great success. While I support Uk and would like to see them go all the way every year they can, I also always pick a side bet.. Used to be Gonzaga, but I'm not sure who' I'll go with this year.

Why do Americans like to watch College Boys apart from being sex offenders?

College Sports are like the 2nd division over here for most sports except they aren't getting paid

I prefer to watch college basketball over NBA.. I'm one of those who watch an NBA game, and hte it because half the time it looks like they aren't playing defense.. or not very hard atleast. And with college basketball, your always getting fresh faces.. different team rankings each year (unless your kentucky.. which like in the OP, I'm BBN proud)..

All that said, I was actually a little disappointed in Kentuckys first game against Grand Canyon.. Idk, just thought they would have won by more. Not to say a 30-40 pt route (I forget which) isn't complete domination.. they just started playing sloppy. Perhaps, to try and not overkill the ball game, but they could have ust as easily held onto the ball longer, ad given full effort on every shot. All in all, even as a Kentucky supporter.. I'm used to the days when Ketnucky had to scrap and claw their way to get to a tourney championship.. and now.. Everyone just expects them to be here due to all the recruited talent.. From underdog, to "The Machine" to which all others must rage.. Reminds me of when I was a Patriots fan during their first superbowl win in the new millennium.. Didnt take long for everyone to hop on the badnwagon, and an even shorter period of time before everyone began to hate them for the dominance..  Such is the way of sports, I suppose.

A lot of other teams looking pretty good.. Duke and Florida both put on impressive performances.. Didnt get to see Louisville, Kansas, or Wisconsin play.. Definitely looking forward to seeing Kentucky take on Kansas here soon. Should be interesting to see where they actually stand.

Kentucky Routes #5 Kansas by 30+ pts? Possibly they were overrated.. or the Platooned Talent System may just be too much for any tea.. Boston played pretty good in the first 20 mins tonight, but by the second half.. Kentucky cleaned house.. My expectations are probably getting higher than they should.. They probably should lose at least one game early to have something to learn by.. Calling for 40-0.. ah, just seems too pretentious.

 How's everyone elses team doing?
