I don't think it's likely, but who knows what futuretech will look like. Reading motor impulses is currently doable, with implanted electrodes. Blocking outgoing impulses, that would be somewhat more difficult if you don't want to do permanent damage. Inputting detailed sensory data, currently outside our capabilities, but only barely. Prosthetics can currently send heat and pressure signals into the limbs, and it's only a matter of time before a brain interface is doable
I don't see this level of immersion as feasible in the near future without a surgically implanted brain interface.
