Maybe I have a poor sense of taste/smell, but people complaining about the taste of nootropics/supplements/meds seem like such utter fucking pussies. The first time is the worst due to novelty, but I've tried a lot of things and it's never been even close to being bad enough that I wanted to gag, puke, or encapsulate them.

Now if it is the case that I'm not experiencing the full force of their taste, I apologize, but considering that the majority of the population can't seem to live without stuffing their fat faces with over sweetened treats, get off their ass and exercise, and are generally such utterly pathetic constant whiners, I doubt this is the case.

This is in oral indulgences and has little substance, so there, you have it coming.

And you are such a shining paragon of humanity, aren't you?  Also, what the fuck do you know about the 'majority of the population', when you spend most of your time avoiding them?

I spend my time avoiding them for a reason. The reason I wear my fedora pulled low over my eyes when in public is so I don't have to look at you hideous uncultured poorly read plebian masses with sub 120 IQs. I am an example of the final evolution of a conscious being, who has attained enlightenment and seen through the futility of reality and transcended standard human existence.

Maybe you shouldn't have Down Syndrome yourself and realize this is in the wrong forum, hence John's reply.

posted about this before in another thread but w/e, the tl;dr was that I didn't experience anything with piracetam. Even people who give positive reports generally say you have to be taking it regularly for a week or two before there are any noticeable effects.

Also malice is actually right, it doesn't taste particularly good but the level of complaining you see about it is pretty dumb.

How's that working out for you, I mean honestly?

I know more than you can possibly understand.

You're on "The Sanctuary", a twice over totse refugee camp, how good could your life possibly be? I say we all throw as many stones as we want, take it light hearted, and stop bitching about it. Make it classy or amusing.

Why does it matter? You should have read about it beforehand and anecdotes aren't worth much. If you want a  recommendation for pages on it: http://examine.com/supplements/Piracetam/

Quote
Many studies note a high inter-individual variability

For me it seemed to increase verbal fluency, fluency with words, writing, and possibly an overall general benefit in ability to think, but significantly lowered my mood, which modafinil and armodafinil did as well, enough to make them non-options. The negative reaction is strange and uncommon, but I'm abnormal.

Generally it's been shown that the lower your IQ, the more you're being lowered below your optimal baseline by disorders or whatever is effecting you, the greater the benefit. For the healthy, at best the benefit has been shown to be pretty small, like, a 3 or 5% boost at most for some mental abilities, and even for the disordered it hasn't been that great. Placebo effect likely accounts for the large bulk of anecdotes reporting significantly positive experiences.

I became interested in nootropics a while ago, have read much, and tried many, let me give you some advice: Generally you aren't going to notice any significant effect. If they even have any measurable effect, they should be treated like vitamins and supplements, small parts that contribute to your health and performance. It sounds lame, but diet and lifestyle, exercise, really are by far the most significant things that will make a difference. Then there are habits, training mental ability, actually working your ability to read think and solve problems.

If you want a noticeable effect, you're going to have to try something harder, like subcutaneous semax injections, nicotine (yes, it can be a powerful nootropic: www.gwern.net/Nicotine), or something to effectively treat disorders you may have (depression, ADD, anxiety, schizophrenia, autism spectrum etc.). You probably aren't going to find a magic powder that will solve all your problems and make you who you want to be. I wanted to, but that's life, you're going to have to try harder than that.

I know more than you can possibly understand.

Heh.  You know, you aren't the only smart person in the world.

You're on "The Sanctuary", a twice over totse refugee camp, how good could your life possibly be?

I tell you this:  If my life sucked I sure wouldn't be spending my copious leisure time on a computer.  I work maybe 2 hours a day, have extra money and time to sit on my ass and do nothing, and I have the best pets and kids a guy could ask for.

You are one of those people who think you are smarter and better than everyone else, and you think that other humans are nothing but moronic vermin only fit for extermination.  You watch as they live their clueless lives, and you hate every bit of it.  Yet those people that you despise, they are doing just fine.  They are mostly happy, have families and friends and careers, and live meaningful, productive lives.  Compare that with where you are now.  I think you know this somewhere deep inside, and it pisses you off, so you act like 'well humanity is garbage anyway, so I will just be misanthropic because it is a safe bet'.  There has to be something seriously wrong with you, if you choose the remote possibility of 'transhumanism' over a normal life filled with human experiences and social connections.

Heh, relax dude, I was just just playing the fedora and wizard memes.

Most people are pretty horrible. Now, they'll probably help you if you're dying, maybe in less serious cases, although often in large part due to societal or ideological pressures, but those are pretty low bars. If you look at their beliefs and actions, particularly in social situations, it's horrendous. And they really don't tend to be very happy and fulfilled, generally, the vast majority of people don't like their jobs.

Regardless, as to transhumanism being a remote possibility, if you mean remote in terms of time as opposed to probability, it depends on what you mean by remote. It's something I've read and thought a lot about, and it's very possible that in a few decades there could be a full blown singularity. Trust me on this, unless there's a global prolonged economic collapse, things are going to be developed, people will be confronted with choices they'll have to make, and it's going to hit them like a train out of thin air. To the average person everything is science fiction until they can actually buy it or there's been a proof of concept showing it's applicable to them.

I could explain my view on the last line, but it would take too long right now. A single human experience is nothing compared what's possible, to the infinite, reality and the possibilities it holds. You live moment by moment, and then it's gone, whether or not people actually remember you, you won't have the conscious existed required to experience it, there's simply nothing.

If you had been born just one or two hundred years ago in a miserable industrial period, or even before then with subsistence farming, would you be satisfied with that? Exhausting work dawn to dusk, with a low average life expectancy, ineffective medicine often more likely to make things worse, mundane tasks being much more difficult and requiring more time etc.? I don't want more, I want everything.

I just have an issue with misanthropy borne out of elitism.  I especially hate the variation where europeans are all like 'Americans are all racist gun nut religious freaks' when they have never been out of their home country and if they had a chance, you know they would jump on a plane to the US in a second.  When I hear or read someone talking like 'people are all fat and stupid and they suck', I take issue with that, because most people really don't suck once one gets to know them.  Even the most redneck toothless southern hilljack will surprise you with their knowledge and experience if you hold a conversation with him.  Humans aren't a lost cause by any means, quite the opposite.
