I don't think people are taking this outbreak with the serious consideration it deserves. While it's not a good idea to panic or become consumed with fear mongering media, it's also not a good idea to think that this will all just simply blow over...
In my mind, I've always had a preppers mentality. I generally prepare for worst case scenarios on the regular, to ensure both my survival and an otherwise comfortable livelihood. Of all of the possible scenarios that I have made atleast some consideration to prepare for.. the one I fear most is that of the biological kind. Diseases of all kinds try to make the leap from being transmuted from animals to humans all the time.. The fact that there is no readily accessible vaccine, or more disturbing, lack of reasonable treatment methods... Heh.. I just don't know.
And in this situation, a worst case scenario could drive this country and possibly this world down the drain in the matter of a few short months. I'll take the possibility of a nuclear strike, zombie apoc, or straight up drop some chemical warfare on me before you strike me down with something I cant see and leave me to suffer till I die.. I'm a survivalist, I have no want for death currently.. or potentially ever if science ever gets us to that point..
In my mind, I'm considering all the outbreaks over the past 100 or so years.. Spanish Flu, Small pox, Tuberculosis.. etc.. Considering when all those occured.. we're really overdue for something to take us down a peg. All I know, is that all it takes is one confirmed case in my state, and I'm on houselock till next spring.. and readily so. I have enough firewood to last a few winters, natural spring water and ways of purification, and two deep freezers full of frozen vegetables and meats from the past years garden.. I don't have to go nowhere..
But that's all hypothetical.. and worst case scenario.. but.. you never know..
