Money for my broken Grand Cherokee
« on: September 28, 2014, 01:48:04 pm »
How much money do you think I could make off a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a L6 4.0L that died after a 2000 mile journey with a busted rod bearing?

It was probably only worth 2500 and a shop quoted me 2000-4000 to fix it so I'm thinking I could sell it as a 4x4 project. You think I could find any takers? The engine only had about 145K miles on it.

I'd like to see someone on craigslist buy it for more than just scrapyard prices. What are my chances? It's also got a flat tire and a driver's window that fell of the track as soon as I was done driving it (talk about luck)

my dad had one of these that was EOL, it had 215k on it, and the suspension was shot. his was a '95 automatic with the 318 and 4x4.

we got $850 for it, the guy who bought it wanted the 318 and transmission out of it.

you could part it out, trans might be worth 500, interior might be worth 300, then scrap is like 600. the motor is worthless if a rod shot out of the block...unless someone wants it for the head or the peripherals. post it as parts or whole, see what happens.

you will be lucky to break a grand though.

Grand Cherokees suck for off roading the regular Cherokee is much more desirable. You'd be lucky to get $400.

Only thing is, the buyer would have to take the whole thing, because I have barely any tools right now to do any sort of work, especially dropping the tranny.

Hopefully I'll find a buyer for parts then. The best I could do would be scrap it but take out smaller, more valuable parts first like battery, cat, and alternator.

The 4x4 idea wasn't mine, but a guy to whom I sold my subwoofers, and he was a local (whereas I am not) so I figured his suggestion might work. Maybe I have just what someone needs though

it can't hurt to post it. put in a bunch of tag lines, someone might even take it as a mechanic special...the I6 motors are pretty common, some 4x4 guy might have one laying around and wants to make a quick buck.

I know if I saw this posted for $850 it would be worth my time to fix and resell.

more money to part it out,   rip the air bags out and put them up for sale,   take the cat-converters in and collect the cash on them.   anything that can be taken off and sold for money is worth it.   then after you sell all that shit put the rest of it up as a parts car or off-road project,   if nobody buys it then scrap it.

at the yard take the rims and tires off and sell those later too.

I know my cats aren't worth much, definitely not more than 100, and fuck dealing with the air bags. Not sure what else can be sold, seats? ha.

Some sketch from craigslist is trying to give 500 to come get it right now at 11pm. Not sure about that...

600 is the best offer i got so far. You think i could go for 8 though? In addition to the need for an engine, it's got a flat tire, a window that won't got up, and some dents with rust

At this point, I don't think the window or the tire matters. When a car needs a new engine, trivial details like that tend to fall away. I hope you see that $800.

I would take the $600, but you might be able to pull for $800. good luck...airbags aren't easy to pull out, but on that old of a car, don't expect mad bank for them.

sounds about right. shitty that your car died, but better than sending it to a wrecker...oh, make sure he gets the title out of your name and you don't start getting tickets in a few months. keep your plates and destroy the registration sticker.
