P.O. Box Swap "hack"
« on: September 20, 2014, 04:54:40 am »
So, as long as you return the key of your PO box when it expires, they won't change the lock.

Before returning it, go to Home Depot and clone it for like $5.

Wait a month or so, and then go into the PO box room at night (beware of bums) to open your old box with clone key. Take note of new owner's name, from mail..

Now you can have whatever "shady goods" delivered to THAT guy, and pick them up yourself at night.

You're welcome.

That's not a bad idea but I bet some of them change the locks, probably depends where you go

It sounds good, but my PO box key has "USPS - DO NOT DUPLICATE" engraved onto it.  A 3D printer could duplicate it though, and I could probably make a copy if I could find a key blank that has the correct keyway.

This is the keyway my box has, not all are the same at my local post office(s)...

I actually have another question I was wanting to ask about PO Boxes, but I didn't because I doubted I'd get an answer.

More specifically, I'm looking for a key code book for COMPX NATIONAL, I believe.  I've actually never had one of these books, but I've read that they are suppose to be for locksmiths only but end up out in the general public.

I have a PO Box key that has 5 digits engraved into it, and I know they aren't the cutting bits for the key, so I'm assuming that there a code.  It's a 5 pin tumbler lock.

Most PO Boxes are monitored by camera for THIS reason.

I've noticed that most post offices in my city and nearby cities(I have looked because I use to ship shit all the time) don't have cameras on the boxes.  Gaining access to a lot of PO boxes isn't just beneficial for receiving and phishing, imagine the inner surveillance a person could do on the inside of the place.  I bet there's a bin or something for IRS returns and who knows what other financial institutions have some kind of special bin within there.

It sounds good, but my PO box key has "USPS - DO NOT DUPLICATE" engraved onto it.

Get some plasti-dip and coat the key head until you can no longer read that on there, once it dries it will just look like a generic key with a rubber grip on it like so many others.

The "do not duplicate" runs down the length of the key though.

At most Home Depots now there's a DIY  key-cloning machine\station. It won't tell on you :P

EDIT: At my local post office there are 3 walls of PO boxes, only 1 wall is monitored by camera, and they are accessible 24\7.

Well, there's also a program, a mobile app, that allows people to take pictures of their keys and order a copy.

This sounds like a good idea, except the po box owners can check the box too, and when a couple grams of whatever shows up in their box with their name on shits gonna hit the fan
