Recent Posts & The Shoutbox
« on: May 31, 2014, 11:40:56 pm »
Alright we have two pending issues now. Actually three but we'll get to that last one at a later date.

For now, we need to make some decisions. To start, I can move the Recent Posts to the top of the forum but I can't make it a sidebar like it was with phpBB and vBulletin. So if this is done, we'll have the Shoutbox AND the Recent Posts bar at the top. That's a little cluttered but if you guys don't care, I'll put it in anyway.

The second order of business is the Shoutbox itself. Do we want to replace it? KEEP IN MIND that if we do, we'll have to give up some features that the Shoutbox has. For example, no more popout windows or perhaps even sound notifications. Or if there are sound notifications, you may not be able to turn them off. Stuff like that. I don't know what exactly we'll have to give up since it depends on the chatbox I decide to get. But just be prepared for that if you do still want to replace it.

So, to sum up, do you still want Recent Posts moved to the top of the index and do you want another chatbox, keeping in mind what I've said?

What's wrong with how it is now? Or are you just going to fix it till it breaks sort of thing?

Can't someone just set an IRC server up?
You don't have to be a student of Sun Tzu to realize that going face-down ass-up for a bunch of paedo's is a bad move for a number of reasons. I hope the final dimming embers of Totse aren't finally extinguished by a few kiddie-fiddlers. Even death by furries would be better than that.

Recent posts up high is cool. I'm also fine with the shoutbox like it is but if someone were to get an IRC server set up, i would probably just use IRC instead.

I could probably get the shoutbox and the recent whatever and people online stuff all to fit nicely into a window next to each other if I had access to the html of the site buuuuut that would require admin or something and I don't really want to be admin. Regardless, my vote is for IRC but we have no reliable host so I suppose just wait some more until someone gets one set up. I feel it'd be bad to have 3 different users host servers that are all unreliable as shit as that would result in no one knowing where anyone is. So yeah, that'd be real neato if the recent stuff got moved up.

Isn't hosting the site/IRC down to staff? Since I'm not a mod and I neither have the experience or desire to host a server... I'm not gonna do it.

It's up to anyone who wants to do it. All they have to do is host it. And whoever runs it gets to run it by their rules, meaning they can ignore the site rules if they want to. If they do decide to do that though, they're very much on their own.

We need MOAR.

I vote for irc
IRC is not available right now.

Roger that.

Guys, for now, we need to stop thinking about the IRC. It's probably not gonna come for a while unless you guys want to donate money for paid IRC hosting. Right now, we need to decide if we want another chatbox or not.

I probably wouldn't be able to host the IRC on a Raspberry Pi right?

I'm fairly certain between us we could donate $20 a month or whatever for hosting.

cuz I've got one sitting around that I haven't really figured out what to do with and I just flashed a new Raspbian back onto the card. Would an IRC server be too much for it though?
