Panic Bags

I got a thin black duffel bag an loaded it up with gear for when SHTF. It's in an easy access spot, and ready at a moments notice. What do all of you have for panic bags/bug out bags? What kinds of cool things do you have inside?  ???

I have a vintage korean war US surplus Musette bag thats a hunting pack most of the time but other times its a 3-day emergency pack.

it has 5 cups of white rice in a freezer bag.
a small flask of rum.
1 quart canteen of water with purifcation tablets.
cook set made up of fry-pan, pot, plate and bowl.....Surplus army.
2 boxes of matches and a few candles.
flashlight and knife.
For real SHTF one of my .32 revolvers with 2 cylinders worth of ammo.
20 feet of twine wrapped around a ballpoint pen.
I can also strap a 6 by 10 dark green tarp folded tightly together to the outside of the bag if i needed.

why?  granted, any gun is better than no gun but a .32 and a .25 are pretty much neck-in-neck in the competition for worst caliber.  ever.

they are the only handguns i own at the moment.

better than nothing.  just make sure if you have to use it youre really close.  skin-contact if possible

Mine got disassembled when the tornadoes hit here last year. So gotta restock but for now all I have are knives, parachute cord, and multi-tool.

Dude, I highly recommend getting your bag in at least a 3 day survival condition asap. I would say after the use of a bug out or panic bag the longest you should take to restock is 3 months and even that is a ridiculous amount of time to go. Best way to go about it is to restock immediately.

"Disassembled" meaning disassembled by the tornadoes or just moved stuff? Cz if tornadoes did it I feel like disassembled is a rather gentle word to use.

Anyway, I used to have one with multitool, some rope, duct tape, emergency blanket and a powerbar, maybe some matches. Not exactly 3-day sort of condition, something to work on >.>

Mine is actually a duffel bag with clothes and 2 fixed blade knives.The other bag which is my actual BOB consists of canned meats,mess tin,flares,water filter,canteen,tent,and a Strike Force striker.

'panic bag'...what a horrible term.  if anything the term should be changed so that the subconscious doesnt associate needing/using the items in the bag for a panic situation.  that being said...the normal human condition is panic.

my first 'survivalist' situation was in elementary school when i first moved to florida and a tornado was sighted.  i was from NYC and had no idea what a tornado was, other than through wizard of oz.  thinking the world was going to end i gradually collected a bunch of stuffs and buried it all in a black trash bag in my back yard.  my first 'survival' bag.  most of the contents were collected with the information from a hardy boys camping book i found in the local library

this is what i call my 'long term carry pack'...not a 'bug out bag' or any of the other idiotic trendy cool-sounding names.





it is used for any situation that i might need to exist for any reason somewhere other than my home-base.  for example...to drive 15 hours to some foreign state to rescue a friend from an abusive bf. it'll last me a week in the manner to which ive become accustomed to living, such as hygiene and caloric consumption.  i could make the food last triple that period of time and the hygiene products two months if i rationed.

riiiight.  not.  my inventory list for that pack is two pages long at an 8 font.

its high-res enough that everything is fairly visible and easy to make out

I made a thread in this subforum called Notes from: FM21-76. Here is an excerpt:

  Army aircraft are equipped with a kit containing the following equipment. This list can be used to construct your own survival kit:
- Water or a means to obtain water
- Food or a means to obtain food
- Trioxane fuel
- Wooden and waterproof matches
- Frying pan
- Pocketknife
- Plastic spoon
- Compass
- Signal mirror
- Mark 113 MOD O (whatever that is)
- First aid kit
- Items to protect oneself against environmental elements
 

I would say its more important to make sure your bag can serve the following functions:
- First aid
- Signaling
- Water/ means to obtain
- Food/ means to obtain
- Fire starting
- Shelter
It doesn't so much matter what you carry as long as you have these bases covered your chances of survival skyrocket.

Disassembled as in I had to use some of the stuff. When the 2nd one hit we were without power for 4-5 days and phone for about a week and a half. Haven't really assembled them because been broke as fuck, and need a new bag but the broke as fuck plays a part in that.
