5-htp
« on: September 14, 2014, 05:40:24 pm »
I have read that 5-HTP should not be used long term, and that the effects of it are inconsistent and most likely placebo. See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3415362/
Using 5-htp increases serotonin production at the cost of dopamine production, since they both use the same enzyme or something like that. But it seems that I can't feel happy without taking 5-HTP. I don't know if I'm depressed but I feel like shit most of the time and it seems to make me feel better. However I've noticed my attention and focus going, so I feel better at the cost of being able to focus on work as much. Is there a way to feel good without 5-htp? What has your experience with this chemical has been?

Doesn't do much for me besides give me a feeling like there are shock waves going through my blood if I take it the same day as a lot of other drugs. Doesn't make me tired but makes it hell waking up the next day.

From what I understand it shouldn't really do much, as it causes an increase in serotonin production, but doesn't release it.
