How 2 get better
« on: September 08, 2014, 02:48:08 am »
All I do in my free-time is sit in bed on message-boards and chat-rooms, then I'm usually disappointed I didn't do any of the things I shoulda been doing.

Like I want to organize paperwork I have, and start in on homework, give the dog a bath, go out and do something with real ppl, etc.  The only thing I will ever actually do is go to work, and then I do my homework at the last minute after fucking off as much as possible.

But its like I'm more comfortable sitting and drinking beer wasting time doing mindless stuff.  I have no other true hobbies because that is all I have done for 'fun' for months.  It makes me feel dull and boring when people ask what I did over the weekend or what my hobbies are because it would be embarrassing to tell them how I really spend my freetime.

Don't feel too bad about it cause you're not the only one. When people ask me what I do for fun all I say is work and then tell them something I haven't done in years like go running so they don't think I'm a loser.

Lmao good idea.  Now that summer is over and the weather is getting shittier it wont be so bad to say I stayed in and watched tv or some shit like that.  I think I'm gonna try to be friends with someone that plays video games or read a book or something.

Life is so short that you should just do whatever makes you feel happy... period. If that's sitting in front of a computer drinking beer for the rest of your life, so be it. You don't owe the world any conformity. In fact, you don't owe the world a damned thing.

I can't say it makes me happy, but it makes me content. I do however sometimes hop unto FB and see how much fun others are having and then it gets to me. I can be a social person but I have never been able to keep friendships, aside from few. Others make finding friends to go out with so easy, It's something I've struggled with. When I look back I think that's what kept me so depressed during high school. My mother was just so overprotective thus it was difficult to get out of the house like all the other kids, so instead I spent all my time on the computer.

If you want to do things, you have to do things.  This is just how it is.

You don't have to do things, but understand that if you don't the world won't wait around for you.

Start slowly, and be gentle on yourself.

Or just dig a hole, settle in, get comfortable and wait for the end.

Is this what you're doing?

Figuratively speaking, yes. Our world is finished, in case you didn't notice.

you probably have some sort of chemical imbalance where your body releases a 'content' chemical when youre doing absolutely nothing that requires motivation or elaborate thought processes.

take a stimulant...that'll spark up the motivation

Find out something you absolutely love to do that can be feasibly applied toward getting you some money in some way, like selling art or making new programs, or etc and continually strive to make yourself better at that thing. This way, you will be doing something you love while improving yourself and learning some skills that can very possibly earn you some money.

Time is always against you in some way or another.

That implies his main motivation is financial.  Everyone isn't focused on making money

Actually, that's just a possible side benefit. The point is doing what you love while improving yourself instead of sitting around.

His post didnt make it sound like he wanted to improve himself as much as he wants to waste less time online

Sounds like it's pretty much the same thing to me.

Do you exercise or do like..anything ThaTerm? Up until very recently, I was the exact same way. I'm still in the process of changing, and probably always will be seeing as that's how life is, but I'm much happier with myself already. Arnox gave some solid advice. Find something you enjoy doing, and it's even better if it's something you can eventually make money off of, even if it's just 10 or 20 dollars at a time, that's okay because it's just a side effect of the accomplishing something part.
