Shotgun Shell Glider
« on: September 07, 2014, 11:44:52 pm »
This was shown to me by an old employer. It doesn't glide well but it works. Just remember to remove the slug or the buckshot because this is something that can go horribly wrong. I've had other wing variations but this was easiest to add to the graphic. What I thought worked best was creating more of a cylinder around the shell like that of the world record holder for paper airplanes in distance. You just chuck it like a football. Works great to create a diversion or cause a bit of panic. He called it a "people pleaser". I posted a better version as a guide to totse2 but this is pretty simple as it is. If you can't figure out what the wings should be made out of then you shouldn't be playing with this stuff.

BE ADVISED! AS WITH ANY EXPLOSIVE OR MUNITION, YOU SHOULD EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN ATTEMPTING THIS! BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST. WHAT CAN HAPPEN WILL EVENTUALLY HAPPEN.

You remove the shot/slug so it becomes top heavy. The pin hits the primer when it strikes the ground causing it to go off. Very simple physics

This does not look like it would work primers need to be struck pretty hard to go off it would be pretty tough to get enough force from just chucking it.

Throw it into the air, up as high as you can or against a brick wall with some force. It works, I assure you. Just remove the projectile unless you plan on becoming an hero.

just seems wildly unlikely to hit straight enough and with enough force to actually ignite a modern shot shell you'd be better off throwing a handful of those crackler things and even if you did remove all the shot parts of the brass casing and wadding are still a concern if you throw it anywhere near yourself those little shot cups can hurt

Absolutely. I never said it was safe. I should add a disclaimer, though. Listen, whether you believe me or not, I don't care. It has worked for me and some force is required to pop the primer but, again, it works. Without going too in depth, the employer that taught me this was a gunsmith who owned a wide variety of guns and ammunition. He manufactured his own shells as well as bought brand new. Black powder is what he did. This isn't my info. I'm sharing what was passed to me. I have tested this one, though, and it works.

Ok, I'm not going to keep posting on and on about this. Try it for yourself. The primer is usually a chemical charge. You need to pop the primer in order to get it to react with the powder. Popping the primer is not that difficult. It's a thin piece of metal that just needs impacted.

That happens but not 100% of the time. Sorry, I don't have a percentage for success rate but then again nor do I care. It's worked for me and I was satisfied.

Black powder with a percussion cap is much different than a shot shell he sounds like a bs spitter at a gun club I know.  I would love to see some evidence of this working as in what did you use for the pin how did you secure it to the shell so that it would impact the primer straight the things someone would need to know to actually do this because this whole thread is a not very useful info graphic  with trust me it works posts I'm not trying to bust your balls but the likely hood of this working is slim

Like in my old 4 winds shotgun thread I posted on &t2 as The Smith shot shells require a lot of force to set off the shell itself doesn't have a hell of a lot of heft after it's emptied and it would have to strike pretty accurately to just not jar the pin out of whack

Come on, guys. Cork is hot glued to the base of the rim without covering the primer. A roofing nail is then driven into the base of the cork until it is just touching the primer. Chuck the damn thing at a brick wall and be done with it. The wings we added were made of aluminum. If you want, add a slight curvature to the wing to add a spiral motion. I don't have a video and I just moved out of the country. In the future, I may upload a video of it but I don't know when that is or when I'll be back out in the boonies.

And Spectre, why the fuck did you change your name?

Eh just felt like it I may go back to reposting all my old threads at some point in the future but I just didn't want to be tied to &T2 anymore
