Downloading music?
« on: September 07, 2014, 02:55:32 am »
What does everyone use to download music? Don't pretend like you don't. This is 2014. I'll never have enough money to pay for all the music I like.

Personally my favorite program for years is soul seek and it still kicks ass. I've found sooo much good music using it. So much better than torrenting.

Sound Pirate no longer works though sadly. In its place, I recommend one use Audacity and just rip it right from your speakers directly as it plays.

rutracker has some of the most obscure stuff I've ever searched for; probably better than even most closed music torrent sites

I try to find Zippyshare links. Google comes in very handy. Sometimse, if there is no .RAR to find on the net I just download a torrent from kickass.to

Soulsee protip: join a chat room of a genre you like, sort users by upload speed or amount of files, browse their stuff....find all sorts of shit you've never heard of!

I'll try soulseek because of this. I always used youtube+keepvid.com, but then I got bored with it all and nuked everything.

Absolutely revolting.

Soulseek used to be my goto music source, I still pop in from time to time when I'm having a hard time finding something. Now a days I mostly get my music from what.cd. Maintaining a ratio is a bit of a pain but I've turned into a bitrate snob over the years and finding only transcodes or v2 on slsk just feels icky. I trawl through /mu/ sharethreads fairly often as a way of finding new music and I've found the archive of that board actually has a pretty solid collection of stuff released in the last ~12 months in v0 or 320 (and the occasional FLAC), so if you don't have a what account that can be a good way of keeping up with recent releases.

TPB for full albums, and mp3ye for individual songs. I used to use beemp3 for the latter, but it's a lot more difficult to find real links now.

This! It's like the old days of Kazza and all those GNUtella P2P deals. I love looking up some obscure artist that only like 2 other people have and then checking out their collections. I've found some cool stuff that way (and a lot of garbage too, but that's part of the fun I think).

I just use Demonoid and find a lot that way. When I did learn of Soulseek, I was too young to really understand how it was used and I never got the hang of it.
