Decent laptop specs for games?

Yeah, I own plenty of computers, including a 2009 macbook that was purchased new, and run a repair business. I still wouldn't waste another cent on apple products.

If you:

a) Are a faggot and/or a hipster
b) Have no desire to ever manually upgrade or replace any component, including the battery, or even open the case
c) Don't mind paying a premium for 'high end' hardware that's often close to a year behind every PC manufacturer
d) Can deal with the fact that a T540 is 10x the machine for less money, and just want a shiny status symbol with a big apple logo on the case

In fact I would go so far as to say they are easier to work on than most regular pc laptops, 6 screws the bottom panel comes off and you have access to everything. Everything inside is serviceable and upgradable in fact I swapped out my optical drive for an hdd drive bay and have a 500gb Samsung evo ssd in that slot as well as one in my main drive bay. I also upgraded my ram to 16gb with ram I pulled out of one of my hp laptops.

So either you are lying or you don't know shit and have no right working on other people's devices or both. I have to clean up "repairs" from people like you all the time. If you don't know what you are taking about then fuck off.

I have plenty and also have the good sense not to drop it on apple's overpriced garbage. especially for gaming - there are still too many titles that don't have OSX support.

The problem with gaming laptops is over heating.

for $500 you could make yourself a PC that will run just about everything on high settings no problem

not so much lately. I used to have an Asus g73jh - it has vents on the back (as opposed to the bottom and side like most)and high-powered fans that keep it cool (applies to the majority of Asus's G range), and my new Gigabyte p34gv2 has the same setup, even though it's literally a third of the size. I haven't had any overheating issues since my old Lenovo T-something from like... 6 years ago.

Windows runs just fine on a Mac i can play any game...

2012 and newer MBP and MBA models are nearly impossible for the user to service or upgrade. The battery is glued in place, the RAM is soldered directly to the logic board and cannot be replaced, the SSD is proprietary and thus incompatible with all other consumer drives. Even the case screws are tamper resistant and most people don't own the pentalobe driver necessary to remove them. These machines are designed to be serviced by apple techs ONLY.

As for my shop, we don't work on apple shit, because neither of us are apple certified, and even opening the case of a recent model will void the warranty. Our business is exclusively PC driven. You OTOH should not be placing a finger upon any machine that isn't destined for the trash can, as you are so clearly full of shit and most certainly lack any kind of experience or certification. Just get something cheap with at least a dual core rated around 2.7Ghz, and drop at least 8 GB of RAM, usually will be an integrated video card. Not too powerful but at minimum get something that has ati something with "hd" at the end.

You'll be able to play games up until around mid 2013 on at least low. No more than $450. I wouldn't recommend hp build quality but I had no hand in picking the laptop I have now, just look at the specs and know that it can handle 2013 Tomb Raider. It's an hp 2000 or something to that effect
