Did she not marry the dude AFTER he punched her ? Did she not repeatedly swing on him before he punched her ? Some would say that it was self defense. What's the big deal ?
This is the problem with American law. Let's say your wife smashes a plate over your head. You get upset and hit her and you both engage in a minor scuffle. The police are called. They show up and you both look bloody and bruised. They will in almost all cases, end up taking the man to jail. That's just the way it is. In fact, you don't even need to hit her. All a female has to do is call the police and
say you hit her and they will take you to jail.
I understand that this reasoning is put in place to protect battered women, but more often than not it's abused and exploited.
