An official Sanctuary doctrine, philosophy, or introduction?
« on: October 20, 2014, 08:38:09 am »
One really obvious thing that everyone's been overlooking is that people who come to this site and don't know what it is will probably think it's a generic BBS and leave. there should be an open explanation of the roots of totse, it's branchoffs, and now the "third gen". do you see this is literally a dynamic system that's made to capture estranged and divergent intellectuals/idiots not restricted to any physical forum location or restraint? theres no other website just like this one because totse has carved it's own niche. but what niche is formed should be included on the homepage/faq/intro section or something like that. somebody should try to write a page or two of totse's history, how it's rooted in the share of free information, and the unique factor that causes it to be this way.

If you're reading this, you're looking for something. And chances are, we have what you're looking for.

This place was established with one goal in mind. To establish a fully versatile forum where most anything can be discussed and said, provided it doesn't violate any of the seven deadly sins of Sanctuary. It doesn't matter if you like music, it doesn't matter if you like demolitions, it doesn't matter if you like games, doesn't matter if you like sports or swearing or drugs or even pirating. This forum has what you need. So welcome to raw information, welcome to freedom of speech. Welcome to the Sanctuary.

A very long time ago, a site with just such a goal in mind was started over 20 years ago. That site was totse. Unfortunately, it was shut down over 5 years ago as well. We started up totse2 as a replacement right after but issues arose there and before we knew it, it was taken down and will most likely never be brought back up again.

We waited but it seemed like nothing was being done. We had something. We had an idea and we had momentum. Then we lost it all a second time. And all of a sudden, we realized we had nowhere else to go.

I have personally scoured the far reaches of the internet myself, looking for a suitable replacement for totse but it was all for nothing. There was no forum that had what we needed. And Facebook/Google+? The feds and various corporations are in bed with them.

Then I realized that if I ever wanted to see the legacy of totse survive, I would have to carry it to safety myself. It seemed no one else was going to do it. And so, I made a decision. I was going to start a new replacement. I didn't have any experience in admining a forum at all. I didn't have any experience with hosts. All I had was a vision and the drive to see it happen.

The result is what you have before you. The wait is over. We are here now. No more nonsense. No more looking. And may it forever stay that way.

The site went kinda crazy and started rocking back and forth mumbling this stuff repeatedly when I tried to quote it but I can't blame the poor site.

"Welcome to Sanctuary: a place for people who don't know how to let go"

Maybe we can attract the bereaved widow/widower crowd, basically what we are anyway.
