once i tried to make this carrot salad. i almost barfed when i ate it, b/c i actually hate carrots. (fine julienne or thoroughly cooked seems to be alright.)
when i was a kid my parents took my bro and i to korea and ordered squid. the people served it freshly cut up so that the tentacles still moved on the plate when served. i managed to eat one, but couldn't handle it after that.
what about you guys?

Last night I tried to make a sauce to stir fry noodles in, and put too much vinegar in it, and it tasted very similar to vomit.
-
^ lol nice, did similar as a kid thinking ramen noodles in cream cheese would taste good. oh man did i have the funniest expression my face.

Fucking octopus pudding at a weird Japanese/Chinese/Thai/Mongolian restaurant. Gray pudding that smelled like shit and tasted even worse. It was on the house, I guess it's their venue's "eating challenge" (WHO CAN EAT THE WHOLE BOWL OF OCTOPUS PUDDING?!!?).
Anyway, I took one or two bites of that shit and was too repulsed to continue. Between the consistency in my mouth, the idea I was eating pulverized octopus, the smell, the taste, it was all too much.
-
Sushi. Definitely sushi. Goddamn, everyone was hyping it up big time and when I went to a sushi restaurant against my will, I tried it out and it was absolutely disgusting. How can anyone eat that? My friend ate this baby octopus and it looked disgusting. At least the baked potato stuff was good.... lol. Never again.
-
I fucking love sushi.
Worst thing I ever ate was either mussels because they tastes like dirt and gravel or jail spaghetti because it tastes like moldy cobwebs
-
Calamari. UGH. Once considered taking a bite of limburger cheese, quickly said "fuck that" as soon as the smell of it reached my nostrils.
-
Some weird Prune pudding, I think it's from Peru. I took one spoonful and almost spat it out. Continued to pour it down the drain haha
-
Speaking of disgusting foods, shrimp. As a kid I thought fried shrimp kicked ass but one time I tried shrimp cocktail and it fucking disgusted me.

whoa that sounds nastyyy, never even heard of it before.

raw tomatoes are nasty as fuck. Id rather eat that Octupuss pudding then a raw tomatoe
-
Skinless chicken breast.
Chicken hearts, liver. Lengua.
-
Me and the woman went out for Sushi one time and I ordered Octopus... I might as well have went back outside and started chewing on the tires on my car.
-
Leek, Parsnip and Ginger Soup.
I went through a period of time as a kid where I was vegetarian and made it from a vegan recipe book. It was so awful that even the dog buried it in the backyard and wouldn't touch it.

Raw garden tomato, cut into slices, sprinkled with salt....one of life's great pleasures.

Some tofu I tried that was in the soup I ordered at this Japanese restaurant. Disgusting, it was boiled and seemed to have no seasoning. I hate tofu in general though.
-
Durian Ice cream. It reeked of Durian and I could taste it on the back of my palate for a few minutes after I had one taste.

Add sugar to counter the vinegar.

you know i feel like such a loser for not having had durian yet. i see it at the market all the time, but it's just too big to buy not having the prior knowledge to what it tastes like. someone needs to hand out durian samples for me at the market haha. i gotta say though, it does smell like feet.
-

Jail spaghetti is definitely one of the worst. Also weird hippie shit. I don't want to eat leaves and whole grain pizza crust! I don't need no twigs in my pizza!

Fast food: McDonald's, kfc, hungry jacks etc.
If they are even considered as food

Fast food: McDonald's, kfc, hungry jacks etc.
If they are even considered as food
Oh hell and ^THIS^ I am pretty sure there is nothing that can scientifically be described as food at most fast food joints. McDonalds has more fat and calories in their frozen coffee drink then in one of those deep fat fried fish sandwiches!! How do you even do that?? Add a whole stick of butter to each cup?!?!?! AND more fat and calories in a salad than in a big mac?!?! Whole stick of butter in the dressing I guess. Cringe.
-
I forgot about this one; truly the worst thing I ever ate: fresh trichocereus peruvianus cactus. A pound of it. Never doing that shit again, though it was the most magical psychedelic experience of my life.
-
Mhmmmm... Peruvian Torch. So bitter, so good. Did you throw up? Did you have a good la purga?
-

I didn't throw up, but my girlfriend did. It was like eating a giant spiny cucumber infused with insanely bitter hagfish snot-type mucilage. She had no effects, I was in a land where ornamental vase necks stretched and grew like strange plants, and I could see colored currents running through people.
-
That's weird, maybe she threw up to early before the magic could enter her body but it's more likely that she is a soullus succubus if you ask me.

She threw up most of the cactus she ate, so it was probably that. You are also right about the soulless succubus part, but that is another story.
-
Some idiot made a celeriac panna cotta at a restaurant I worked at. That's probably the worst thing I've eaten.
Durian is great but even the Indonesians and Malaysians I know don't eat it more than a few times a year. It has a subtle tropical fruit taste that you don't get anywhere else. The dominant flavour and texture is of rotting onions though, no getting around that.
Jerome, even though the fruit is enormous there's only a little bit of pulp inside. And you can freeze it in an airtight container, the whole fruit is frozen before shipping anyway.
Hydromorphine, try some asian grocery stores, they often have them in a freezer, especially if the owners are Indonesian.

Dined at the Y the other night for the first time. food there was so salty I almost gagged. Never eating there again
-
I've tried and failed to appreciate kimchi.

Fucking tinned hoblusti with dill. Also, mullet milts.
Everything else in this thread for me is no drama, it only stands to reason though that we as a collective have different tastes, and with further reasoning that one of you sick fucks likes sucking down on milts from mudblood mulletfishe.

My adoptive family was slovak and on christmas they had this stuff that we had to eat or they threatened we would not be able to open presents. It was called 'babalki' or some similar spelling. Pretty much dough balls with saurkraut and cottage cheese. I still shudder at the memory.
-
Literally Haggis
More than once although the second time it was just a bite then I elected to go hungry

HAH. I'm not surprised with the threat! To many, the consumption of these type of dumpling is much more important than gift giving.
They are a staple for many who are pushed into more traditional ways of life by means of living with grandparents or having little income, but in times such as Christmas they have special reverence with all and are elevated in some ways almost to a beacon of pride.. ..despite the fact all of your neighbours grew up eating them, too, even if just with different names. Maybe that is metaphor for eastern Europe as a whole, though. To you Babalki, to me Pierożki (Pierogi). The variety you mention, with Sauerkraut / Kapusta Kiszona and usually sour cream, poached in rolling water then finished by frying to golden in a cast iron pan of butter are particularly popular.

I think I already said it, it's not the worst thing I've ever eaten but I have a strong distaste for imitation crab meat.
-
I used to love Ramon Noodles... looking back, it's probably one of the worst things I ever ate..
As far as straight up flavor.. hmm... Anything with CLOVES.. might as well be my kryptonite. My fiance's sister made some type of bean thing and I guess she loaded it with CLOVES.. I took one bite, and no lie.. it scarred me. Nastiest thing I ever ate.
EDIT- I was severely sleep deprived when I posted this, I meant to write Cloves, but I had Chives on my mind for some reason. I'm cool with Chives.. But Cloves can GTFO..

Motherfuckin' crab meat and celery salad.
-
Shellfish, served to me by someone who didn't know it had gone off. I don't particulalry like seafood anyway, but after I'd finished projectile vomiting for 2 days the mere smell of it now makes me feel sick.
-
^^^ Also second that, I didn't even finish the antarctic muscles I was served before I was spewing vomit outside the bathroom door. And I think I only ate one.. lol.. I actually started to believe I may have been allergic to shellfish because I want to think I could feel my throat tightening and my blood pressure increasing.. I laid around for over an hour and I still wasnt right for the rest of the day.. Then again, I love me some deep fried clams so.. idk..
-
Mint flavored yoghurt drink. Blegh. But as I always say, I'll try anything once.
-
I fucking love sushi.

Def not a mussels fan... I tried it once in a garden tomato sauce and it was disgusting... However I think I would try it again if prepared another way....as long as I can't taste them...lol

I agree with you.. I can eat like 5 tomatoes a day cut up with some salt....Actually I'm eating that right now! YUM

I always heard that Durian was a nasty stinky food, I don't think that I could eat it either! I also heard that in some countries it was illegal to have indoors... I don't know if this is true(prob not) but if so then I can just imagine the smell! Of course me not liking it doesn't mean that I wouldn't try it at least once...lol I must watch too much bizarre foods!

Do you like Oysters Kilpatrick? You can make ghetto oysters kilpatrick with mussels. It won't ring the dead with similarity, but it's a worthwhile adventure if you've got no better way to dispose of some mussels. You only need some tabasco, a smokey hickory bbq sauce and spam.
I can walk you through it if you'd like.

-Turkey vulture. It was a day old winter roadkill destined to be preserved in my uni's biology museum as a taxidermy specimen representative of Cathartidae. I fried up some chunks of breast meat on a hotplate. It literally tasted like rotting flesh.
-Raw deer tendon. For whatever reason I decided to hack off a piece mid-butcher to chew on. Started off like slimy/snotty bubble gum texture, then eventually the slime wore off.
-Harmala ground in a magic bullet. Ridiculously bitter. I took eating it plain as a challenge and eventually got used to it.
-
Oddly, reading about some of these nasty food experiences is making me hungry. Like its working some kind of weird reverse psychology..
A food I've never been able to try but assume I'd dislike is something called Salse.. Now I'm not sure that's the proper spelling, of if proper spelling for that word even exist as it is a recipe particular to the country setting. Basically, after you butcher your winter hog, you take the head with nothing removed and boil it all down in a big pot.. add your own personal seasoning to culture flavor.. and don't remove it till everything remaining is of a semi non-solid consistency. You then take that and pour it into a thin baking pan and place it in the fridge to congeal. Once it congeals into a firm cuttable consistency, you have your finished product. You definitely cant find this everywhere.. usually a few of the backwoods 1-2 pump gas stations that just so happen to have a deli of sorts.. or some people prepare it themselves. It's intended to be cut into squares and served on bread.. While, when you think about it, can it really be any worse than balogna, potted meat, or hotdogs? All of those contain similar leftover scraps and bits.. I guess it's just the idea of having watched it be made.. The final product actually looks and smells semi decent, and slightly resembles a pepperloaf.. more so if they preparer put in small bits of peppercorns. I dont know.. honestly, I might just try it soon to say that I have.. may even end up liking it. Still, one of the more stranger recipes from area.. Gotta admire not letting anything go waste, just not a huge pork fan.

Mussel shells taste good. I used to eat ones I picked off the sand at the beach. They was good mang.

I could see someone saying that. When cooked properly however, it is a sufficient substitute for meat in taste and texture. Sure, it's never going to fully supplement eating a burger, or chicken stir fry (it actually works very well in stir fry, both in taste and consistency). The thing about tofu, is you really have to infuse the flavor profile of your choice. I'm not vegetarian in the least, and I till like to throw in some tofu on occassion.. I usually chop it up into cubes and infuse it with a little chicken stock, or fry it in the grease of another meat component.. bacon, chicken, and even steak. Of course, seasoning goes a long ways.. I've never baked Tofu, and I'm not sure how it would hold up honestly.. but grilling it and frying it are definitely recommended.
-
I've had tofu several times, and is absolutely is not a meat substitute. Frankly, it is it's own food, and should be treated as such.
At least, that's how I feel about the matter.
-
Tofu isn't a bad food as long as you fix it correctly... I enjoy it in fried rice or in stir fry....Although it does have to be the extra firm kind...that soft shit I just can't handle.

I am not that fond of liver, but I guess the worst is whale that has been sitting on the boat for to long. Strong metallic taste.
Lutefisk and the like, I love. Most people, even some Norwegians, hate lutefisk.
