Title: The last movie you watched?
Post by: arleybob on September 02, 2014, 11:28:57 am
I'll do the honours of "moving" this over from zoklet.

I watched Coherence, a pretty shitty movie about a dinner party who run into duplicates of themselves and try to figure out what's going on. It was kind of stupid but check it out if you have nothing better to do.

Last Action Hero

Pretty good action movie satire IMO. Gets a special commendation from me for not making the kid an annoying whiny character.

The Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie

I wasn't expecting a good film or anything, but it was pretty shit with the black kid and the grill gamer characters. The cheap practical effects and some reference jokes were pretty funny at times, but otherwise it was meh. Unless you ever saw the nerd videos most people would probably not like this movie much.

I'm making my way through the James Bond series (again). This one seemed like more of a straight spy/action movie than the other Roger Moore Bond movies, going through these in order I can see why they went with this tone after Moonraker a movie that was at least 30% goofy reaction shots. I think I like the campier Moore ones though, when they strike the right balance (The Spy Who Loved Me, The Man With the Golden Gun), this one just wasn't as fun.

yeah man, I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy this movie as much as I did. It was a lot of fun and Tom Cruise nailed it.

I tried to watch Chinatown again last night but fell asleep again. Chinatown just does me in. I really wanna get into it and finish it start to end but I must have tried at least five times and I always fall asleep.

I was on the fence about him with the first one, but I have to admit he was pretty damn good in the sequel.

yeah! he's actually carries on the humor the character has in the comics, which we never got to see with toby maguire. read that garfield took on a lot of yoga, training his flexibility and movement to play it all right, which is so awesome. garfield moved like a cat compared to maguire.

Transformers 3

While Mark Wahlberg was definitely a step up from that Shia Lebouf faggot, the movie still sucked dick. For the first hour I enjoyed all the flashy explosions and michael bay cliches but, like all of these movies, after a while the impact wore off. They literally repeated the exact same formula as the other transformers movies but threw in retarded dinosaur robots so optimus prime could ride one into battle, as if that was going to make us forget that this is a shit movie.

Kill Bill 1 and 2

While I've seen it several times over the years, it still is on my list of top favorite movies ever. The reason I wanted to watch it recently is because I knew Lil Guru would probably enjoy it... as well as share the context of some of the lines, music, and martial arts discipline he had been hearing about in other places. As expected, he loved it.

Snowpiercer. Was kind of surprised to see Park Chan Wook's name appear in the opening credits, but it did assure me that this was probably going to be good. And it was, though I didn't see a whole lot of his 'influence' or style in it. One hell of a ride. Kind of weird at times, but I like that.

Last movie I watched was Dead Poet's Society (for the first time) a day or two after Robin Williams died. I don't watch a lot of movies, and this particular one had been one I had meant to watch since my highschool love introduced me to it(never watched it but that movie brought us together nonetheless). It's probably going to be a long time before I watch another movie that will match up to the emotional impact that movie had at that time. Dayum.

Since it's not technically out in theaters until October 31st, it's safe to say that the last movie I watched.. hypothetically.. was "Horns".

You know, I really enjoyed this movie. The movie, I assume, is quite funny and very interesting.. a bit of a mystery movie in a sense, with plenty good bits of vulgar humor centralized around Daniel Radcliffe's character.. which makes it even more interesting. I'm not going to spoil anything, but I will say that I initially disliked the ending.. but after re-consideration, I changed my mind.. hypothetically. I assume this movie is one that I'm going to enjoy and actually want to keep on hand for a future re-watch.

In short, I recommend this film.

Surprised that it turned out to be an elaborate setup for a simple but sentimental love story

Shit, you people must not watch a lot of movies. On &Z this thread was updated pretty regularly. Stretch was a better movie than I expected.. decent comedy that I knew nothing about before watching, and some decent quality actors for that genre.

Next movies on the list are Godzilla, Sex Tape, and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods (Don't judge me.. I'm nostalgic and have to at least check it out)

It's not "The Possession of Michael King" is it, or "The Houses that October Built"? I have these two lined up for hopefully tomorrow night.. I skimmed through the first one and think it might be okay, but I'm not sure about that second one.. Gonna try and watch them late at night with the fiance so amplify the "spookiness" as it would be..

No, it was The Triangle (2009). It's best for your sake I don't comment, but it's not scary in the traditional gore sense. It's more the unsettling type. Well worth watching and persisting with.

Watched Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort.. Dl'd it because me and the finace has been doing a halloween theme since it Tis the Season. I mean, my expectations for this movie was considerably lower than what it turned out to be... which was surprisingly, enjoyable. Funny thing about expectations. We just got done watching the first half of Last House on the Left, but we're going to finish it tomorrow.. Made it to the rape scene that may have been overly hyped, because it didnt phase me.. there is a lot worse to be found on the internet.. "a lot worse". Still interested and finishing it.. and then.. idk what I've got on deck.

Love that movie.. The best original superhero move ever made.. and even though I like 75% of the material that comes from the Marvel studios, that movie was far and beyond anything Marvel has produced so far. It wasn't just the violence, the intellectual properties were beyond expectation.

Now having said that, I have to admit that the last movie I watched was.. The Flintstones, and not the "viva rock vegas" one either. It was a tad nostalgic from my childhood, so I enjoyed it.

I only enjoyed suspria because of the goblin sound track who also did the sound track for dawn of the dead the original one.. in the 70s

Saw both new Star Trek movies this week

Awsome!!!  They're Trekkier than Trek.  Awsome new (old) characters, plenty of action, uber cool Enterprise (the whole ship looks like Steve Jobs built it) awsome plot twists,...

I only hope there's a new series in there somewhere, there's no decent scifi on tv anymore  :'(

And, to RestStop, it was the original Halloween. I'd like to watch more horror tonight but I'm already pissed from going to a wake. We'll see what happens.

Dracula Untold.. At first I thought it was going to suck, but.. I actually enjoyed it. Not something I'll re-watch anytime soon but it was alright.. my expectations were low to begin with.

Let's Be Cops was surprisingly better than I thought it as going to be, given the first 30 mins seemed like a crappy b-comedy of sorts. Turned out to be more entertaining than expected. Wasnt a great movie by any means though.

Guardians of the Galaxy.. and even though I had no idea what to expect, I have to say.. it was better than the last couple of films to come out from Marvel.. Helluva lot berrter than Thor 2. I like the direction they took with this one.. it's light.. not overly complex or asking too much, just a fun visually awesome flick. There isnt a lot of depth to the villain but.. shew.. why am I complaining if I liked this one.. Eh, you'll just have to check it out. Definitely not too too bad..

A little animated flick called The Wind Rises.. It's a Ghibli film so that should tell you what to expect, if you like msot of what they've produced then you'll enjoy this one.. otherwise.. maybe not your speed. It's an inspiring tale of a boy who lives in japan as he grows up pursuing his passion for airplane design amidst the pending outbreak of WWII.. Not a lot of dialogue in the begining but it is a captivating picture if this is your sort of thing.

Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.

Looking back, I notice that there's a lot of dumb stuff being done in these movies. I think people sometimes put the classics on a pedestal too much. The original Star Wars trilogy is a good example. There was a whole bunch of dumb stuff in that movie too.

Not to say that any of these are bad movies in the slightest. But there you go.
