Bad Ass Mother Fucker
So much props goes to Cowboy Bebop for being an anime without using BARELY any stupid japanese anime tropes and being COMPLETELY amazing while doing it. I wish I could find a box set of it for cheap somewhere but you'll sooner find a gold nugget laying on the street than find one that is priced cheaply. Even my own papa likes the show and he's not into any other anime in the slightest.

I know a pawn shop that sells a whole buncha TV show box sets for around $20 each.

Bartender is my favourite anime because it's probably the only adult oriented anime that's ever engaged me from start to finish. No super powers, no guns, no swords, no mindless killing and no fanservice, just excellently written stories.
Somewhere towards the opposite end of the anime spectrum is Kaiji. Still no moe, harem and pantsu shit, but this anime is tense. It's about a normal, shit-scared guy gambling with his life to wipe his debts with the odds stacked against him. Watching the first series of this over two days was actually the first time I broke a sweat watching something on TV.

There is a particular anime in which the plot is a young girl and these two boys were the main characters that got sold to this individual who was experimenting on the children, thus turning them inhuman. They were given numbers, if I recall correctly, and the character Zero was the girl's "Brother" if not just her real brother.
And D Gray Man is the shit also.

Duh. I forgot about the epicomatic that is Death Note. *face palms*
Code Geass, that was what it was called.
Accel World is alright also.
And of course, Attack on Titan.

And of course, Attack on Titan.
At the rate people are praising it, I may actually have to watch it myself.

Do you guys watch dubbed or subbed version?
-
Trigun.
-
my favorite anime is just about anything funi made in the 90's. but i haven't watched anything lately because any anime you can buy on dvd doesn't have subs or if it does they are badly done. one piece does subs very badly and i stopped watching and only ever bought the first voyage.
but i have tried watching some episodes on CN but the shows looks like it went off the deep end as far as wierdness goes. kind of like what adventure time did.

Cant speak Japanese?
-
Do you guys watch dubbed or subbed version?
It depends on the anime, I'll often watch one episode dubbed and then again subbed to see which is better, Gurren Lagann comes to mind because the dub of that was brilliant.
Now for my favourite I'll give you 5 guesses but if you need more than one you should kill yourself.

Objective Bebop power rankings:
Ein
Ed
Jet
Spike
...every non-regular character...
Faye
-
Baccano, Black Lagoon, Requiem for the Phantom, and Darker than Black are some of better not over the top unrealistic animes.

I've seen a handful, but I'm not a connoisseur by any measure. Serial Experiments Lain was a trip, I want more like that.
-
Fruits Basket. Almost every episode makes me tear up and want to cuddle with something :O

Oh geez, doesn't everyone. Lots of series have been compared but as far as I know SEL is in a genre of it's own. Death Note is kinda similar in that it's very cerebral, but more in a good murder mystery way than the kinda just trippy abstract/contemplative way Lain was. Both Bakemonogatari and FLCL felt similar to me in that they have the same sense of elliptical pace and often the general atmosphere of a scene being more important than the development of any plot points.

I loved Death Note until a certain crescendo, about 1/2 way through. It couldn't hold my attention as well after that until things began to unravel. Still, it kept me on edge the whole way through. Some of my favorite shows are the ones which force to me navigate a puzzle that a character finds themselves subjected to.
Those elements you mentioned about pace and atmosphere are what I think made SEL so attractive to me, so I think I ought to check out the anime you suggested. Thank you!

Props for choosing Sign. It got a lot of flack for being rather wordy but if you're studying or speak Japanese, it's a wonderland of learning and enjoying good storytelling as the characters back stories unravel. Best line by Sora (on why he dislikes Ginkan): "Daikirai da shi..." I also really enjoyed .hack//Liminality for the same reason.
I would like to put Kaiba out there as it's not very well known and equally as strange and thought provoking as FLCL/Serial Expirment Lane. Tekkonkinkreet is also very good for the same reason.
Attack on Titan is bullshit. What do you learn by the end of it? It's just a modern Blue Gender with giant humanoids you have to cut in the head instead of giant bugs you have to shoot in the vagina mouth.
-
DB and DBZ, do those even count?
Black Butler, Fairy Tail, Sword Art Online (I don't think it counts either), Chobits, Yuyu Hakisho, Gurren Lagann, and for whatever reason I can't think of more titles at the moment.
I enjoy these quite a bit.
Oh, and Attack on Titan but everyone loves it, too. One of the few series I completed subbed

Deadman Wonderland 10/10
Mirai Nikki 10/10
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni 10/10
Hellsing
Stein's Gate
Cowboy Bebop

DMWL was pretty awesome, it's a shame it ended well before the manga (and the fact that the manga when to shit pretty soon after the events portrayed in the anime).
Mirai Nikki was awesome, I loved the manga, I'm just watching the anime now. I felt like a lot of the fun of MN relied on the cleverness and that was better captured in the manga (just by merit of having more time to display said cleverness) but I'm still thoroughly enjoying the anime.
Still need to get around to watching Stein's Gate and Hellsing.
Bebop is great but lets be honest: it's a bit overrated. And it's getting more and more dated by the year. They did good by only leaning on CGI for the couple of hyperspace scenes but even the normal animation is getting kinda behind the times by this point. I love and always will love Bebop but at some point I think we need to acknowledge it's thoroughly entry level material.

Bebop has the only jazz themes I've ever really liked
Nyaa.eu has Mirai Nikki uncensored, as well as other torrents
You're lucky you still have Stein's Gate to watch. It's a quick gripper IMO, as well as Mirai Nikki

Its not meant to compete with today. Today has to compete with then. It was a great show for the times and if you watched it then, its still pretty cool show.

Lolwat? How are those different things? I'm not saying it wasn't good but there's like this generation young of american and european men for which Bebop was their first (and for many, only) good seinen series and who are convinced it's the hottest shit ever when people who have explored more of the genre rarely hold the same opinion.

Monster because it's messed up and easily a better story than half the thrown together mash up anime, manga-that-goes-on-forever-about-what-amounts-to-virtually-nothing, that i have watched in the past. Also it's got intrigue out the waZoo and action but the plot doesn't center around it too often. Good all around style and characters that make you give a hoot

Wasn't it because he wanted to die and knew he was a monster that's why he wanted to be killed after murdering their parents and got patched up?

Because of the events of course that occurred at Red Rose Mansion and the orphanarium that turned him into a psychopathic controlling murder machine.

But he never actually went to the Red Rose Mansion (that was Anna) and he was a psycho before showing up at the 511 Kinderheim.

True, but she might not have shot him if they hadn't prepared her for him right? So in order for her to fail at killing him and him to meet the Doc they must have taken place. Then I'd have to say it must have been the events of the war in his home country, the death of his birth parents before crossing the border and being found by soldiers. The events after which were told by the story about a soul stealing monster saying that because he had forgotten his name he would go around killing people to steal their names .

Ouran Highschool Host Club DEFINATLY! To me, it's probably one of the best comedic relief shows and I couldn't stop watching after the first few episodes. Hours of gut using gags and laughs that cheer me up when I'm feeling blue!
