Title: Drinks! (non-alcoholic)
Post by: equanimity on September 28, 2014, 01:00:56 am
How does Sanctuary quench their thirst?

For me, it's usually iced tea.  I keep 30+ different kinds of tea around at all times (no lie).  My favorite herbal tea is peppermint, but I'm also partial to chamomile.  When I'm home I drink glass after glass after glass of iced tea (always drink lots and lots for good skin!).  Yes, chamomile.  In the daytime.  Iced.  Sue me.

If I need caffeine I prefer yerba mate, but various greens and whites and blacks work just as well.

Besides tea, I only drink water and coffee.  Usually not coffee.

Sometimes I add coconut milk or hazelnut milk to hot coffee or tea.  yes.

Water mostly. I like green tea sometimes.  Milk is good.  I get free sodapop at work(Mountain Dew).  Right now I'm at a theatre(Equalizer) with a nice cold beer on my order board.

For Refreshment? Almond milk or barley water, dilute, amongst melting crushed ice. I don't care for iced teas as much. Astringency sits better with a hot tea, for me, and it is no less refreshing on a hot day to drink hot tea than it is to drink it iced and overly sweet.

If you could expand upon your preferences in the adventures of tea discovery, where do you find yourself now and where do you see yourself in the future?

Oh wow, what a great inquiry!  Yeah it has been a long, strange journey.

Well right now I'm sipping on some hot (unsweetened, no lipids) mate.  It's Guayaki brand which seems to be high quality for the kinds you'll see in grocery stores, but it's pretty expensive.  Right now I'm poor.  Like really poor.  And while I have tons and tons of teas, they're all just regular store brands (Yogi, Tazo, Stash, etc.).  I do have a basket of wonderful black tea that my stepmom purchased for me while she was in China.  It's the kind that comes as like a compact little ring of tea wrapped prettily in light paper that expands as it's heated.  In China they put one of those in a big teapot and just drink it with the bits of tea in it, but I prefer using one of those stainless steel "tea bag" things.  I have some of those fancy ones that work similarly but bloom like a pretty flower that floats around at the top.  Green tea and herbs and stuff, so delicious.  That I drink some of the bits with because it's worth it to see the pretty stuff in your drink.  My stepmom has some coca tea bags from Central America.  All the writing on the box is Spanish and it has a really unique and good taste.  I feel like the leaves were probably treated somehow to remove the coca, but I swear it gets me feeling up in a way very unlike caffeine.  Could be placebo, but I won't touch the stuff when I'm working for fear of failing a drug test.

I guess I do drink a lot of hot tea, it's just that I'm trying to keep my fluids high and it's much easier to drink iced in large amounts.  As I mentioned before, peppermint and chamomile are my favorites for iced tea.  That and mate.  Peppermint with some yerba mate is a winning combination!

In this future when I'm rich, I have plans of being a tea snob.  Fragrant baskets of exotic leaves and stuff.  And I'll be like, "Oh, this is fair trade jasmine white tea, from India.  It was very expensive, but you know all of my friends are only worth the best!"

And I'll have the proper mate gourds and all, very fancy and expensive variations with fun designs.

I will always drink most of my tea unsweetened, maybe with a splash of coconut milk or what have you.  If I do decide I feel like a sweet tea it's with expensive locally-sourced organic honey.  Yep.  That's me :)

NON alcoholic drinks?

Water
Tomato Juice and/or V8
Orange Juice (no pulp, and not from concentrate)
Teas- Earl Grey, Breakfast Blend, Chamomile/Sleepy Time, and African Red
Homemade Hot Cocoa (special blends bought straight from the Mennonites, and damn delicious )

Considering how big of a milk drinker I was when I was younger, idk.. I just cant stomach it anymore. I may need to look up what may have caused this.. Milk used to be my drink of choice, but now I get sick.. almost as if I'm become lactose intolerant.. is that even possible. I do need to find a suitable calcium supplement though, and one not based on any kind of nuts, as my fiance is allergic. Guess there's always Soy, but.. I'm not to optimistic.

I have also formed a habit... as strange as it sounds.. of adding a little honey to most all of my drinks. Started with tea and then it just went from there.. Honey has many positive health related perks.. I suggest you look into it.

I drink a lot of water and at least once a day a glass of sweet tea. Love the stuff. I use regular ol' tea and infuse it with some different blends of chai each time. Just a little bit of chai though. It helps you cut back on how much sugar you add and tastes great. I like coconut flavored ones in sweet tea the most.

Oh man, chai is awesome!  I buy concentrated iced chai (Bhakti brand I think) in half gallons and add it to whatever teas.  Doesn't sound as fancy as what you do, but it's so so delicious.  Really adds a bite to your tea :)

I'm a big tea fan... manly earl grey and breakfast blends, also enjoy Irish tea... I'v tried the chi tea but it just wasn't for me. I also enjoy a nice cup of coffee from time to time-iced or hot it don't matter- dark roast with either french vanilla or caramel macchiato creamer... big hot chocolate fan during the colder months, during the summer I enjoy fresh veggie and fruit blends that I make from the fruit trees and garden along with a lot of water. Not a huge fan of milk or coconut water but from time to time will find myself drinking a glass of it.

I like tea too, but I'm not fancy about it. Usually just Lipton, but I've been working my way though an enormous bag of Orange Peoke that I bought. I make it in one of those 64 oz coffee buckets, and some days I'll drink two or three of them, with lemon and honey.

Other than that, I drink tons of coffee. Blue mountain, if I remember to restock it, Folgers if I don't, and occasionally Kona.

Espresso plain is way better than I ever thought it would be. Been drinking them a lot at my new job. The froth or "crema" on top really adds an exceptional smoothness to the bitter after taste of coffee drinks.

Aside from that I like water, and occasionally soda.

I love Coffee, but I just cant handle it anymore for some reason. It doesn't effect me the same way it seems to effect other people. Most people drink coffee and get an energy boost and that extra pep.. I drink coffee and within 30mins I'm straining to keep my eyes open. It literally works better than a sleeping pill (considering I have mild insomnia anyways).. And I drink regular unsweetened iced coffee as well as plain black coffee... same effect.. for a while I thought it was the sugar that was making me crash, now I just don't know.

In certain people and people who have become so used to it due to constant exposure, caffeine will actually start having the opposite effect. Its rather normal actually.

That would make a lot of sense. I'd say my caffeine intake for the bulk of my life has been in the higher percentile vs. the rest of the population. It actually wasn't until after I cut off caffeine for the better part of a year, that I noticed the new side effect when I got back into coffee.. While I'm not completely devoid of caffiene in the modern day, I might consume a little coffee, maybe once to twice week.. But really, I've about cut it out completely.. I've really taken to Orange Juice as my go to drink of choice.

Other than feeling agitated and jittery if I drink a lot (and I mean a LOT) of caffeine, I don't get anything from it. Never has. A normal bottle of pop or tea or anything has no noticeable effects.

Also coffee and tea have the same caffeine content so be wary of that.

I've heard of this being the case for people with ADHD.  Do you have ADHD, by any chance?

I usually just have to take breaks from coffee from time to time so that it don't make me crash. If I drink it to much then I'm super active for a while then crash. But is its just sips here and there then I'm ok.

Here's that coca tea I mentioned.  Swear it gets me a little high in a very not-caffeine way, but you figure it's gotta be treated somehow to remove the vast majority of good stuff...

Guess it's from Bolivia.

Mocktails can be quite nice for a non alcoholic drink that is not Tea or Coffee.

This is also how tea is made :

Kettle on, boils, water in cup, chuck in Tea Bag, Stir the fuck, Add Suger, drink, enjoy

I use to drink poppy-head tea.  That'll get you high.  Pupils super tiny, eyes extremely red, feeling all tingly.

Coca tea is illegal in the United States unless it is decocainized. So maybe some hope...
