The next time it goes down I'll check.

Sometimes...you can cry until there's nothing wet in you. You can scream and curse to where your throat rebels and ruptures. You can pray, all you want, to whatever god you think will listen. And, still it makes no difference. It goes on, with no sign as to when it might release you. And you know that if it ever did relent...it would not be because it cared.

Well you're not making much sense to me. Like I said I have no idea how these things work. It is obviously working now so I don't know what I can do. Being rude about it isn't going to help me. Also no one has really answered my question about a new router anyway.

Do you have the same problem with other networks  as well or is it just your network at home?

It appears to just be this network and this specific computer.

After reading up a bit on the HP 2000 series this seems to be, oddly enough, not that uncommon. Driver issues are probably the reason for your issues as you've been able to connect previously. It would be interesting to see if the problem persists while using linux but I guess that's out of question in this case.
Besides buying a different WLAN USB Adapter you could try to update or exchange the drivers, this is fairly easy to do even with little or no knowledge.
Which exact model out of the HP 2000 series are you using?

If I did that right the number with the # should be the model according to HP's site.

rude? It is a common sense thing. Right click on your wifi and troubleshoot. Go to device manager in control and update driver or browse HP site for hardware updates............................if and when I become rude you will sure as fuck take offense to my response; at the moment I am trying to help you

If you have no touchscreen and do not want to pay for Stardock and want your normal start menu back use http://www.classicshell.net/ so you can navigate

how ling has it been this way. My best thought on winning this is to kill your current driver and use your manufactures driver in case Micorsoft updated something you didn't wannt done. As a last dish resort....I refreshed mine and it is blazing fast
THROUGH WINDOWS 8

To access the System Restore, Refresh and Reset options from Windows 8, perform the following:

Open the Charm Bar. This can be accomplished by either holding the Windows key and pressing the ‘c’ key or on a device with a touch interface by swiping from the right hand side of the screen towards the center.
Select “Settings,” and then select “Change PC Settings” at the bottom. This opens the PC Settings app.
Select “General” at the left.
Scroll the right section to the bottom and select the "Restart now" button under “Advanced startup.”
The computer will display a Blue screen and bring you to the Advanced startup screen.
Select Troubleshoot. Under Troubleshoot you will see “Refresh” and “Reset”.
Select “Advanced options.” Located here is "System Restore."
THROUGH F12 AT STARTUP

To access the System Restore, Refresh and Reset options using the F12 option at startup, perform the following:

If not already, ensure the computer is completely shut down. How To: Shut Down a Laptop with Windows 8
Now restart the computer by pressing the power button - IMMEDIATELY start tapping the F12 key on the keyboard until the "Boot Menu" screen appears.
Using the arrow keys, select <HDD Recovery> and press "Enter".
On the next screen you are asked to confirm if you want to contiue with recovery. Select "Yes".
The computer will bring you to the Advanced startup screen.
Select Troubleshoot. Under Troubleshoot you will see “Refresh” and “Reset”.
Select “Advanced options.” Located here is "System Restore."
start new and use your factory drivers. I can't ge my WiDi operating right but a refresh is your best option and keep all files
