Shamanism was the first "religion."  All religions were derived from Shamanism and were later hijacked by psychopaths for power and control.  Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, etc.  They were all shamans.   I don't really believe or disbelieve anything though. How could we form such opinions? We truly have no clue about anything.  We're not able to perceive the vast majority of reality and that which we do perceive is distorted by our own humanity.  I think that essentially we all have the potential to be as gods, but that those in power keep us enslaved.  I believe that we should work to empower each other and to worship in Good Faith however we choose to do so.

anyone that claims to have any god worship needs to do one thing:

provide a single piece of proof that follows evidentiary procedure that their deity is real and not a figment of some sick and twisted bastards imagination

So you'd like to have sex with a man dressed as a baby?

considering yourself a 'man' is taking a bit more license than you are justified in doing so

'bitch' would be more appropriate.

For me it's all a hodgepodge value system of Paganism, Buddhism and Satanism all without superstition. Superstition is all just theory and a waste of time. It's the fundamental reason for mindless sectarian conflict. People are killed everyday just for not believing in something that can't even be proven until they're dead, how funny would it be if we were to somehow find out that every suicide bomber, every Jihadist, every "Shahid" were all just cast away to Hell immediately after they martyred themselves. That would be splendid but I'm just real ambivalent on believing that there could be only one true religion, only one true God to adhere to. Thomas Jefferson cut apart and reconstructed the Bible without any of the miracles and supernatural events, it follows the life of Jesus Christ as if he were a real person performing good deeds just for the sake of being a humanitarian tending to the basic moral needs of all human beings. I'm sure it would be tedious and boring to read but I think that's kind of the point.

Wow, what a great thread!

Many of the posts in this thread confirm what scholars have been saying about religion in the 21st century: we are Spiritual not Religious; Seekers instead of Dwellers; We draw our religious beliefs from a variety of disparate sources, some ancient some new; We are "Sheila-ists" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheilaism) in the sense that we follow our own individual intuition when it comes to religious belief, rather than blindly listening to some external authority.

I'm agnostic. The closest thing I can relate to politically is anarchism, though I don't consider myself one. I believe that anyone should be allowed to believe what they want and do what they want as long as it doesn't cause any harm to anyone else or interfere with their lives negatively. Live and let live. I don't believe in revenge, though I have vengeful tendencies and am imperfect.

How could this work? You say yourself you have vengeful tendencies and aren't perfect. So knowing this you should be able to see that in a world with no government where people live and let live that there will be some people effecting other people negatively. Everyone has violent tendencies their natural. You can not live in peace. People should start accepting this and realize we are just animals too and just accept what I call the "demon" and release it. Let's go back to the primitive and natural law and the art of nothing. I am not saying we are all evil bloodthirsty serial killers I just believe nature has a way of working things out. In primitive society wuen we were hunter gatherers there would be no reason to go and kill a whole group of people unless they had something you needed like food or were a threat too you. There was natural law you lived to survive you killed what you needed to survive. Unlike now adays a couple mega corporations own most of the food. Sure you can try to be self sustainable in modern society but the government makes it as hard as possible without having some source of income to pay for the taxes and permits. So you have to go to work to buy food at walmart. They have put food and water and all the meaning of life in a locked box and the key is now money. So you are pretty much forced to work to live. The difference between modern work and primitive work was work now a days is a lot more demanding and time consuming along with meaningless and unfulfilling.

I guess I'm an Atheist, but I really don't like the label/name, just sounds douchey. I think when you die, you just rot in the ground forever. A God who, obviously knowing no other option, decides to have his son tortured to death for "your sins". I may have been a bit naive as a teenager, but, even if this were true, this just screams "I'm obviously the best thing to ever happen to you", keep trolling for attention.

Also, he's fucking god, can't he just do whatever he wants without having to kill people, let alone his own son? That being sad, there being no god, I'm not dismissing bad things, you still shouldn't kill/rob/rape people, but that's more of a common sense thing.

If anything, it motivates me to even accomplish more with my life in the small 75 or so years I have alive. I think a lot of Atheists go the whole "life is meaningless, so fuck it" type route, which I admit attracts a lot of people, especially people just looking for that particular excuse. No, your life is still important, meaningful, and a winnable fight even if there is no after life, which makes even more people(probably) waste their life as well "if I don't drink/do drugs/ devote 18 hours a day to worship, God will accept me" meanwhile they're wasting their life just like the people who say fuck it. I'll write more later, but these are the main things why I am the way I am.

Quote from: wikipedia
Shamanism (/ˈʃɑːmən/ shah-mən or /ˈʃeɪmən/ shay-mən) is a practice that involves a practitioner reaching altered states of consciousness in order to encounter and interact with the spirit world and channel these transcendental energies into this world.[2] A shaman is a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of benevolent and malevolent spirits, who typically enters into a trance state during a ritual, and practices divination and healing.[3]

Jesus obviously was not a shaman, to call him as much is to abuse the word to the point of making it meaningless. Neither christians nor jesus believed in the shamanistic notion of spirits.

Anyway, I'm an atheist (inb4 "derp derp tips fedora" go fuck yourself) and a materialist. Epistemologically I hold to a very weak form of empirical anti-realism (a la pre-naturalist Hume but a little less depressing). For an ethics I flipflop between Millsian and Benthamite utilitarianism, but usually find myself in the Bentham camp. And I flirt with the idea of process ontology but metaphysics isn't really my cup of tea and I can't claim to have a really firm grasp of the field and various positions therein.

My beliefs most closely resemble Buddhism. I can expand on this later, when I'm not in bed on my phone :P

You never expanded.

Is it safe for me to assume that one of the reasons you like Buddhism is because, unlike some religions, being a degenerate faggot doesn't automatically result in being thrown into a pit of boiling lava in the next life, or stoned to death in this one?
